ryujignh Posted June 1, 2024 Share #241 Posted June 1, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) First freeze with 2.1.1 Today(6/1), I experienced my first freeze after updating to version 2.1.1 on 5/23. When I turned on the camera and took two or three shots, it suddenly stopped responding. I tried to turn it off, but the orange indicator stayed on, and the camera didn't turn off. I attempted to switch the power lever off and on a few more times, but still no luck. Eventually, I had to remove the battery to force a restart. I believe there are still some errors that have not been fixed by the firmware. Edit: Found a very similar case that other user reported: Edited June 1, 2024 by ryujignh
Advertisement Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Hi ryujignh, Take a look here Did the May 2024 firmware update 2.1.1. solve your M11 freezing problems?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted June 1, 2024 Share #242 Posted June 1, 2024 Would be useful if colleagues reporting that sort of glitch could elaborate on did they format cards and update user profiles before drawing whatever conclusion.
Ian Johnson Posted June 1, 2024 Share #243 Posted June 1, 2024 Unfortunately I’ve also had a couple of freezes on the new firmware already as well. These have been happening consistently for me since fw1.6.1 so it’s nothing new, but I’m still disappointed Leica hasn’t managed to isolate and address the issue. Had my hopes up for a few days there. 😔
elmars Posted June 1, 2024 Share #244 Posted June 1, 2024 I had a freeze with 2.1.1 too.
Antonio Russell Posted June 1, 2024 Share #245 Posted June 1, 2024 (edited) I think the freeze issue is hardware related.... No matter how many firmware updates they issue the underlying engineering issues remain. Its now over 2 years since launch. Long enough to have sorted this if it was firmware related. J S H Posted June 1, 2024 Share #246 Posted June 1, 2024 Unfortunately, I would agree - it's a flawed masterpiece. But it does most of the things really well, almost all of the time. Luckily I use other systems for work (Sony/Fuji), so if the M11 locks up occasionally, it's usually not critical. I wish it weren't that way, but I've come to accept it. At this point, I'm resigned to the fact that it may never be truly dependable.
costa43 Posted June 1, 2024 Share #247 Posted June 1, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could the Maestro III or internal memory be a bottleneck?, total speculation on my behalf but the q3 and sl3 seem ok on the maestro IV and no internal memory.
fsprow Posted June 1, 2024 Share #248 Posted June 1, 2024 (edited) No freezes in my early M11 for 20,000 exposures and none in 600 exposures with the new firmware. Edited June 1, 2024 by fsprow

No freezes for me - I'm still on v1.6.2. But some freezes occasionally occur with my Canon R5/R3 and Fuji GFX100S. As well as my Apple Mac, my phone, my flat screen TV......
setuporg Posted June 2, 2024 Share #250 Posted June 2, 2024 Got the first freeze today on M11-P with the Mandler 75/1.4, no SD card, internal memory only.

lexffm Posted June 2, 2024 Share #252 Posted June 2, 2024 vor 15 Stunden schrieb jaapv: I guess deep formatting the card in SD formatter will cure the problem. There are strong indications that the problems were caused by hidden files. If the file structure of the card is damaged, a simple format will not help. It is no more than replacing the first bit of all files by a question mark, making them superficially invisible. To restore the proper structure on the card only a full format will do. So far I haven't had a freeze with the new FW. But to be honest, it can't be a problem of the SD card itself, then the problem would be solved with only internal storage, which is e.g. in #255 is not so. I had already tried it (with the old FW) but was also a problem

Could be the reason yes.. The M11 owner in the following thread had to have the entire mainboard replaced so perhaps that is the cause?

I think the same. Leica has a hardware issue on its hands, and they are trying to do magic with software to mitigate the impact and avoid a recall. Two years to solve a software issue? I work in software, and that's a sign of incompetent programmers, a lack of resources, or a hardware issue that they are trying to cover up.
geoffc60 Posted June 2, 2024 Share #255 Posted June 2, 2024 If it's hardware related then it's certainly not affecting every M11 owner by any means. As an owner of extensive Canon kit I can testify that main board failure is something I read about on many Facebook forums every single day and so it doesn't just trouble Leica owners. colint544 Posted June 2, 2024 Share #256 Posted June 2, 2024 Hmm - taking pictures out on the street yesterday in warm weather, with the latest firmware. Three crashes requiring a battery pull, and two images appearing upside down. Neither of those things happened previously. So it's not all beer and skittles. Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted June 2, 2024 Share #257 Posted June 2, 2024 (edited) Never had an upside-down image until now. This is not normal at all. I wonder how beta tests are carried out if they let such errors through. Edited June 2, 2024 by lct

Are the upside down files the same size as the regular way up ones? Maybe not totally "cooked" by the processor? Yes I know that's quite a stupid theory, but are there more plausible ones?
