How widespread is the ‘FREEZE’ problem!?

That’s how I use mine when out shooting. Just switch it on let it sort itself out. However, I might sometimes (not always) gently press the shutter button while it’s slung over my shoulder to make sure it’s on and definitely ready for when I want to use it.

I've had a silver M11 since it came out, never had any freeze issues. I also just got a black M11-P about a month ago, and so far it's been flawless as well.

A related question. Mine has started doing the occasional over exposed shot randomly. Anyone know what the alleged precipitant is for this behaviour?

It is a bug that randomly happens. It is described a few times here. Leica never fixed it.

It didn't happen at all on mine and suddenly about 5 or 6 times over the last 10 (non consecutive) days of shooting. Odd!

Curious.  I sometimes get an underexposed image but almost never overexposed. I tend to leave the camera on center-weighted.

Since the thread title is "freezes," I'll add that I finally had an M11-P freeze today, but that was with an older firmware.  The rest of the day went fine.

I've read several posts here which indicate the freeze problem has gotten even worse with the latest firmware update.

That’s a good question!  The lens simply comes up as uncoded on the M10-D, if I recall correctly - I can’t check, as my M10-D is back in Wetzlar, and my computer with all my photos is down.

So, after using my M11 for over a month, it finally froze. It has actually happened a couple of times already. It happened while shooting with high continuous. Before that, I had been using single shot or low continuous and hadn't had any issues.

I have the latest firmware.

It's funny that we have €8,000 cameras and have to be happy with occasional hiccups. With the M240 and M10, I never had this issue. Actually, with the M240, I had the camera lock up perhaps once or twice during five years, and the M10 never really locked up.

Worts part is the lack of acknowledgement from Leica or any statement that they are working on it... it's been 2 years since the camera was released.

There have been reports of newer firmware incoming to address these issues. We shall see.

Mine is always switched off after shooting and then on again sometimes in quick succession. I have deliberately steered clear of updates. I always save to card not internal memory and shoot raw. I have never had a freeze nor a corrupted file. The camera is two years old
