I have to say that Voigtlander are the most exciting lens manufacturer at the moment. Thank you for continuing to release interesting designs and giving us difficult buying decisions! I also like that there is no silver rim on these releases!

I am also now encouraged by a future 35mm release of a smaller Apo Lanthar. I currently own the 50mm version which is a perfect lens at a just about acceptable size for a 50mm f2, I couldn’t bring myself to buy the 35mm though due to its length but a smaller collapsible would be right up my street.

According to the video they published on YouTube, the APO lens will have a “click” when focusing closer than 0.7m, but not the Color Skopar. At least finally they are introducing this feature for film users. It’s been driving me insane as a film camera user.

It’s a win on digital too when relying on just the rangefinder. Nice to know where 0.7 is without having to turn on live view and take your eye away from the ovf.

For those hoping for the collapsible feature, alas, it is, apparently, NOT the case.

Interesting. It makes sense from a dust standpoint, but then why design it like this at all… it just seems weird. That being said, I actually like the “rigid” version design more anyway, especially in black paint. Now I just need to find somewhere that sells 34mm yellow filters that _arent_ a special order in North America.

If you have an “evil bay” account, there have been German dealers who stock Heliopan filters, and would readily ship to the USA.

Edited to add: I did just did a search, at the ‘bay, and saw only pre-owned 34mm Heliopan filters, offered by German and Austrian sellers.

Look for the old Leica filters sold to fit the 90mm Elmar etc, they are 34mm. Type “H” in this list. But they don’t have a screw thread in the front to add a lenshood on top.

I don‘t know whether they will ship to US, though asking won‘t cost you anything:

I have ordered Heliopan filters and adapter rings from this place, and they shipped to the USA. This was several years ago. I could not remember the name or the company, yesterday, so, thanks for posting this.

To be honest the 35 is basically the same as the 50... like 5% bigger, or 10...

"Rigid collapsible" non-collapsible lens it is, here is the APO Lanthar 50/3.5 fully extended in its 45cm MFD glory.

Such a strange looking lens but really cool too. 150g weight! That is basically made of helium. Roll on a whole series of these lenses please... 21, 28, 35, 90... Perfect landscape kit in theory.
