CP93 Posted August 3, 2024 Share #101 Posted August 3, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I rarely use a bag but when I do, I don't want it to scream "LOOK AT ME, I'M A CAMERA BAG." Most recent purchase is a small ThinkTank bag.

Only a few little things bothered me. Above all, there was the big logo. Which I cut off first. Then the big Velcro fastener annoyed me. This loud noise every time I open it... I swapped it for a magnetic closure. Holds well and is silent. The large metal zippers also kept rattling. I swapped the large metal straps for sturdy leather straps - now it's quiet and you can take the bag with you to a concert. I also gave the bag a kind of handle. Now you can, for example, Just grab it in the car, which I find very practical. Thanks to the additional tabs on the sides, this is very easy. Welcome, dear visitor! Been thinking of doing the same.

Unpick the stitching of the velcro on the bag part and it comes off. Leave the velcro on the flap part. The closures I used are similar to these, in brass. Cut two tiny slots with a sharp knife through the velcro on the flap, but not through the outer flap material; push the tabs of one part of the closure through the slots and bend flat by feel with your fingers. If you are willing to unpick that piece of velcro you could insert the metal backing as reinforcement; I didn't, but it has caused no problems. Do the same for the other part of the closure and the outer fabric of the pocket. Here you can add the metal backing inside the pocket. This part of the closure remains visible inside the pocket. Obviously you have to align accurately the two parts of the closure. I used two closures on my FX5B.

I really like the bag. But as I wrote above: That sound when you open the Velcro fastener... snap... Imagine you're standing in a gallery and you want to take a picture. The camera is still in the bag. The subject is completely engrossed in a picture - perfect moment. And then you open the bag... And everyone turns around to see the noise and the disturbance. It's all over... That noise used to just annoy me. So get rid of that thing. The magnets work well. When you're transporting it, everything is closed and secured very well with the zipper anyway. Since then, I like the bag even more.
mmanda Posted August 6, 2024 Share #106 Posted August 6, 2024 (edited) Sometimes us women dont want to carry a 'camera bag' - want an every day carry bag that doesnt look like a camera bag but I always have my M10 with me. What I'm aiming to try is one of these: https://www.andar.com/products/the-tatum?variant=40606213046354 But I'm struggling to find a somewhat padded insert that I can put my M10 with the 35mm Cron attached inside it. I don't mind wear and tear on my camera through use but actual damage in a bag is something I'd rather avoid! I also dont want a zipped pouch, something easy to reach in and pull out the camera... fussy I know the bag itself has a zip so that would be closed anyway when the camera is inside it. Does anyone have an ideas of what might fit/suit? Edited August 6, 2024 by mmanda

Much better than the typical neoprene camera cover or pouch. You can also search Amazon for “Hakuba pouch”. Note that the Hakuba brand neoprene camera covers are much thinner and really only offer scratch protection. Premix-provost Posted August 6, 2024 Share #110 Posted August 6, 2024 I use an old rucksack/shoulder bag, but have plenty of padding inside. Very stealthy and doesn't scream "Expensive camera bag please steal me!"
Mikep996 Posted August 6, 2024 Share #111 Posted August 6, 2024 As I have always found with my Leica gear ...if it wont fit into a Domke FX5B, you're carrying too much stuff!
Olaf_ZG Posted August 6, 2024 Share #112 Posted August 6, 2024 My m basically lives outside the bag, unless stuffed away while traveling. As a spare battery is with me, I also carry a small plastic bag. Just in case a summer shower might surprise me, I at least can protect the camera.

mmanda Posted August 28, 2024 Share #114 Posted August 28, 2024 (edited) So I bought that Andar Tatum bag mentioned above and thought I'd show a few pics for anyone that is looking for a womens bag thats less 'camera' and versatile. Photos below all have my M10 inside it. Easily room for a spare lens and personal things. Welcome, dear visitor! There's almost no information on them - one review in German on YouTube (he didn't seem to like it too much, especially the Fidlock closers). Trying to compare that one to the Oberwerth Q bag and the Billingham Hadley Digital. Might order all three from B&H - only way to really compare properly. Quality is very good, and capacity seems about perfect for 1-2 M bodies and a probably one or two lenses. The bag’s material seems premier with a nice textured finish. The only negatives I found were that this type of Fidlocks seemed hard to open (which is both good and bad) and also seemed to require that the user to use a 2-step unnatural ‘outward/upward’ motion to unclasp, and after unclasping them, they seem to easily bounce back and relock themselves… it might be I just needed to spend more time to get used to using this style of fidlocks, or use it in a actual scenario with gear in the bag. The one other negative is that the bag seemed heavier than it appears. I was comparing it to an Oberwerth Leather Q bag which seemed a featherweight in comparison (even thought differences show only about 100gram lighter). I’m still considering getting one of the ReLon bags as I’ve been really happy with my other Oberwerth bags (the Weekender is amazing). Hope this helps and at least provides one perspective from someone who has seem them in person. Edited August 28, 2024 by RMF
patrickcolpron Posted August 28, 2024 Share #118 Posted August 28, 2024 I've had so many camera bags in the last few decades it is not funny. This summer I decided I was done with camera bags because the best way to not make a photo is to have a camera or a lens in a bag. Now I just leave my house with one camera, one lens, over my shoulder or in my hand. Anyone wants Ona bags, I have a bunch I no longer use 😉

Your Fidlock comments match with that YouTube reviewer's - seems like they are a step backwards from the great locking system they've used historically. The ReLon M is larger than the Q bag right? Perhaps that's where the 100g are - I would think nylon inherently is lighter than leather though. I'm trying to decide between the Oberwerth Hydro Q / M bags, the ReLon M, or something like the Billingham Hadley Digital to carry 1 M body, 3 lens (1 attached), and 1-2 accessories. Mikep996 Posted August 30, 2024 Share #120 Posted August 30, 2024 Re the noise of the Domke FX5B velcro tabs referred to earlier, the magnet mod is a good idea but rather than do any mod, I have always covered most of the velcro on the "bag side" with black duck tape so there is only a very small velcro attachment. It makes more of a light "snap" sound when undone than the "rip-the-building apart" sound of the full velcro! Since the bag can zipper shut as well, the flap doesn't really need much to secure it. In fact, the flap would be OK for me with no "attachment" at all. Its primary purpose is as a rain/dust/appearance cover so I can see (and may actually do this...) removing the velcro from the bag entirely and leaving gravity to close the flap.🤔
