Paris Street Shooting Question

I've just read a couple of articles about the difficulty of doing street photography in Paris. In most countries, when a photographer clicks the shutter, they own the copyright to that image. In France, however, law now favors the subject and the gist is that the individual owns the copyright to any images taken of him/her. Quite often, when people on the street in Paris are photographed without permission, the reaction can be quite hostile. I'm curious if people here have encountered these problems recently.

Last spring, we spent 6 weeks in France starting with 4 days in Paris.  I just went through my Paris photos, and it appears as though Parisians are pretty much like New Yorks, and generally paid little attention to my camera and me.  Let's see what others have to say.

You are free to take photos in public areas. It’s more complicated if you want to publish them (web, books, articles and so on): theoretically, you need the consent of the persons, but practically, you are free to do so, provided that you respect the privacy or the dignity of the subject.

You should generally pay attention to this, because Parisians in particular also consider a table in a cafe to be their living room. I haven't been there for a long time, but street in the streets of Paris is definitely still going on. Paris is not very crowded like it used to be, there are a lot of visitors. Go a little off the main streets to meet real Parisians. Tourists are not Parisians!
I looked at your site, my respect - really good pictures from your perspective!
