Went to Leica Miami to buy a half case for my M-A. Saw two beautiful examples. Very high quality with prices to match. No problem, I was in that mood. Tried both of them. They fit like a glove. But.......... they both felt too bulky. I could not get comfy at all. Drove home empty handed. Drat!

They’re all bulky. I’ve tried them all and resold them all…

Agree. I have a Mr Zhou for 111c 111f screw bodies, but as soon as you fit it on the whole camera feels twice the size. Time I gave it another try, it is nicely made and feels nice. It came with a camera I later sold so it didn’t cost me much.

Buy a scratched up, dented, but good working used camera. I did this with my M9 🙂
No need for a half case. After 8 years of heavy use, you can still see no difference with the day I bought it. (it was that bad from day one I saw it)

My M8 is a different story. I use a Luigi case with built in wooden grip for that. It is almost as good as it was when it left the factory. And yes, it is bulky, but I have no need for a thumb rest with this case, and on my M9 the thumb rest makes it even wider than the Luigi case does. + the leather feels better to the touch.

I have a certain conscience about future owners of my pre-war Barnacks, which still have intact vulcanite. If they hang from my neck (as opposed to living naked and strapless in a camera bag) then I would rather they had protection from my zips and buttons; and since they don't have strap lugs anyway, I need a half case to attach the strap. I have a Luigi case for lugless Barnacks, which does the job. Does anyone else make them?

Having bought a lot of 50s-60s era cameras, I've come to appreciate the condition of those that lived in their leather cases. So I've adapted to the feel of cased cameras, as I was taught a craftsman takes care of his tools. I've used several (cheaper) brands due to my budget, including several Mr. Zhou for various camera makes. They do the job.

Pretty sure this question has been asked a few times in the last couple of weeks. ;)

I have half cases from Zhou, Art and Artisans, Luigi, and a $50 one from ebay that many vendors are selling.

The Luigi case is from another era when they were super bulky and frankly poorly stiched. Just messy uneven stiching - I think back from when there was no competition.  The $50 ebay one is easily my favourite - super slim and form fitting, really nicely made, no loops that go over the strap eyelets so it is just much nicer to hold.  Not at all bulky.  Multiple colors.

Here on my M6

Yes, but those bodies have strap lugs. My II Model D does not, nor my Leica Standard. My iif does have strap lugs, like yours.

Wow that is some inconsistently spaced, all over the place stitching.

Is the word you are looking for 'rustic'? 😄

I don't know the answer but if you look at the Facebook page there is something going on between ability and perception.

That was the kind of workmanship they used to sell at outlet centers back in the day when clothing mfgs sent their defects to be cleared out for pennies on the dollar.
