Came here for a funny PSA. I sold my Leica M11 because shooting with it I felt like such an imposter, comparing my lame pics to the all the amazing pics others get. And the cost of the camera kept nagging at me. So I made the stupid decision to sell it. And now I’m missing it so much I will probably buy another M10 or M11 soon.

Lesson is - Never sell a Leica M. You’re going to end up buying another one anyway. They are such beautiful cameras that made me want to take it out and shoot with it every single day.

Have fun with your Leica M folks!! I’ll be back in the mix soon!

My last two shots with my M11 before I sold it:

You'll buy another Leica. Five years ago I sold off all of my Leica M gear (including a M6 TTL Millennium) to fund a home improvement project. In 2019 I bought a M4, now the M4 has a friend (M4-2) and after starting with one lens, now there are six more. Take your time, look through the forum for the lenses you might want to own and rember there is always someone selling a Leica!

I’m realizing that ultimately I shouldn’t compare my self to others. I loved owning a Leica, loved shooting with it and I realized I shoot for my own pleasure.

Miss my Leica. I’ll be back soon !

Don't be a stranger.

I’m confused. You had a Prostate Specific Antigen test and it was funny? And it made you sell your M11?  I don’t follow this at all.

Look out for a good M10-P.  I’m sure the prices are very good right now.

I like the second shot. Definitely some potential there.

M camera's are fun to use. That alone is a good reason to own and use one. For the rest I do not care much what others think of my results. As long as I am happy with a good percentage of them, it is fine for me.

You forgot to mention the lens you are using. Maybe make a different choice this time when you buy your next M?
Lenses are even harder to sell without regret. It took a while for me to find my favorites, but once you have found what works for you...

I didn’t actually.  I can understand acronyms, they mean different things to different people. YMMV 😀

Folks here typically say that about Leica lenses, not cameras, especially not the digital variants.

I have never regretted selling a Leica camera or lens since my brand entry in the 80’s. But there’s always room to improve my photography; that’s rarely a gear issue.

Whatever makes us happy.

This is a very timely post, I'm in the process of selling some Leica M accumulated over the years, so I know that it is dangerous, however allow me to modify "never sell a Leica", a proverb greatly ignored more than adhered to.  "Never sell a good (sample) Leica",  I've experienced some samples I could not return fast enough.  Otoh a good or spectacular sample should be sold with the understanding that obtaining one again is improbable without great effort and expense.   Anything less than a good sample can be replaced (non collectible) easily from home using the web.

I have done the same in the past. My photography skills are far below the majority of the beautiful shots I see on the forums. It's funny to me because I remember watching my dad develop photos in the darkroom as a kid and thinking the photos were boring!.. I recognise now that I'm exactly the same! I have the technical knowledge but the artistry in the application is lacking. I'm also swayed by how i feel at the time or how the macro environment affects me and my impetus to photograph life and things.

I sell things when I am not using them, It can be purchased again, or it's an excuse to try something different!  I have regretted once or twice, but in the big picture (!) it's just photography gear which is replaceable.

I've sold M3, M2, M9, M240. I later regretted the M2 - I sold it to pay for the M9 - but when I returned to film I replaced it with a M4, which is what I actually wanted when I bought the M3 (but couldn't afford). I don't regret any of the other sales.

As for lenses, I have recently rebought the Elmarit-M 28 asph after selling it a few years ago: no regrets - my needs just changed. The same with the TL2: sold it when I bought the CL, then bought it again as a temporary backup for a holiday in India - then sold it again on return.

I can’t say that I’m looking for improvement. I do think that Leica reached a level op optical quality which is the ceiling for me, I do not need anything more sophisticated than what’s available now. Camerawise everything which is necessary to make good, inspiring and original  images is also available. And actually, in that sense there’s very little surplus value for me in all the M’s that have been invented after the M4.

Improvement suggests for me better technical or compository quality of an image. What I’m looking for is more specialty, creativity and surprises in the images I (want to) make. Here in the LUF I also see a lot of rubbish, sometimes even highly praised, that was made with relatively extreme expensive equipment which threatens the meaning of a photographing  life and feels decadent.
So I wish all of us any camera, if only you love it so that it inspires you to make images that aren’t 13 in a dozen.

I had no clue what that ment. And now I know "public service announcement". But I never ever heard these 3 words in that row. I decided to abstain from asking Google 😇

I got used to carry my M9M almost every where I go...
Even if I just take the photo of a spider or something on the ground I still can tell myself that I used my Leica M9M... :D
