According to Hasselblad’s X2D datasheet, the camera is rated down to -10°C (14°F): https://cdn.hasselblad.com/f/77891/x/9d9016542e/x2d_100c_datasheet_en.pdf

That said, I find temperature ratings are not always all that meaningful. The Leica M8 was only rated for 0°C (32°F) but I’ve used it in -25°C (-13°F).

I have been thinking a lot this weekend about what I want from a system and what I need.

Except from great lenses, dr, iso and so on, following is key to me:

- waistlevel shooting: not sure if either the h2d or new q can do this; 907 can

- long exposure with no NR needed

100mp is not needed, 50 will do.

It seems to hold up in the cold

Thanks for all the replies about using the camera in cold temps. I agree that temp ratings aren't all that useful, but in my experience the first thing that goes in the cold is the LCD screen, which was my main concern with as critical as the touchscreen is to the use of the X2D.

One thing - and I know is a bit irrelevant to models discussed - as mentioned, is the grip. Although Mamiya 6 is heavier camera than M, I found it a non issue because the grip allowed more secure grip and balanced the weight perfectly. I used to travel with it and M240.
(Shouldn’t have sold it, sigh)

Dear Robb, I would like to explicitly contradict you on this point. I had my M10 with the Summilux 50 mm and the 55 mm on the X2D, also at open aperture (f = 2.5), for comparison. Took several photos and couldn't see any difference in terms of bokeh and its delicate melt. For me, this was a decisive point in the end, as I shoot a lot with an open aperture. In the meantime I have taken the camera with me everywhere, made a few (mediocre) pictures and am blown away both by the bokeh and of course by the massive quality of the resolution. Of course, one must not lose oneself in the quality of the large sensor, in the end only the image pulls no matter how good the resolution and how large the colour depth is.

Kind regards, Shlomo

Don’t get me wrong - I love the x2d and new lenses.  I think the transition is smooth from subject to out of focus background at general portrait distances.   But I see the background far plane as more defined than what I see with my Leica lenses.  No swirls.  Soft but with some edges.  I posted a few examples in my “adventures thread” in the SL section.  But the admin asked me to only post Leica images so I won’t be putting up any more.  Maybe I’ll get over to the hasselblad forum at some point.  Not sure.

I believe it is OK to post non-Leica images in the Digital Forum.

No, Srdjan, photos need to be either of Leica equipment or taken with Leica equipment.  The only exception is the Open Film thread started by Doc Henry.

Are you enjoying your X2D?  I’ve decided to return to the Hassy X system, funds and availability permitting.  I’ll start with the X2D, a spare battery and the XCD 2.5/38 V, then consider further options.

I had the 907x because to me it is one of the most beautiful cameras ever. But in direct sunlight it was not easy to use and for most of my photography use it was not so suitable. I switched to the X2D and I never regretted it. With the handgrip it is so easy to use, really a joy to take. I use the 21, 45P and the 80 lens. A zoom would be very nice but the 35-75 is way too heavy and clunky.

On the other hand, the Q2 is for me the perfect travel camera, easy to use, reliable, also beautiful colors, fast AF.

But as we all said before, you can not compare these beautiful cameras. If I had to choose one camera, it would be the X2D with the 45P.

Also the 6x6 thread on the German side.

And also L mount threads, I believe.

Yes, I like it a lot and will start getting rid of my GFX cameras and lenses.

The 907x is exactly like Noctilux... everyone wants one, it is gorgeous and beautiful but then the people realize that the form factor is just too much and eventually sell it. Truly probably the best looking MF digital camera out there atm but the X2D is a close second PLUS soooo much more useful.

One of the great things with the 500 plus WLF and 80mm lens was just how well it carried on the shoulder. It was well balanced with no protrusions, but add a prism or a heavier lens and a lot of the magic was gone. The SWC/M ergonomics were a step down with the balance changing and the OVF to catch. The 907x looks superficially like the SWC, but handling looks compromised further.

Shame the X2D hangs lens out, like almost all other cameras and not lens down like the 500 series.

This image shows the H2d is really great, or better huge.

To me still the better question would be, h2d vs SL, but then, it should be in the other forum.

I think you're right. The 907x is super cool and fun to use but the X2D (or even X1D II) is a lot more useful with a variety of XCD lenses. With the flip screen on the X2D, one advantage of the 907x is gone.  IBIS is also such a game changer on the X2D.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't want a 907x sometimes to walk around with, with a small lens like the 38v - just a fun small package that looks great too with fantastic file quality.

I’ve always followed Galen Rowell’s recommendation of hanging a camera off the shoulder with the lens pointed back towards the hip.

Another Hasselblad vs Leica size comparison, not with the Q series but with the M-body that most of us are familiar.

The original X1D is smaller than many may suspect.   Photo from F-Stoppers.
