Are you planning to buy the new Leica Q3?

And:

What would most appeal to you about the Q3?

Looking forward to your comments!

No. 28mm is not in my vision, 50mm please

In fact only the luxury goods strategy ensures an increasing, well-funded clientele and company growth, you can see that with millions buying horrendously overpriced iPhones (or similar) that in production cost probably 1/10th of their MSRP; or even worse: bags. I’d be surprised, if a 7-8k Chanel bag had direct costs much higher than 100 USD. And the stores are crowded.

I was hoping to be from propaganda on this site. Alas, not.

I will likely sell my Q2 and purchase the Q3 later this year.  My main reasons are better sensor, increased dynamic range, low light improvement and more megapixels.  I am also hoping from better human tracking to keep up with the grandkids.

I thought briefly about buying a Q2M but decided that an M10 Monochrom suited me better. I liked the M10-M so much, I bought an M10-R to complement it. No need for a Q-type camera ...

For me, a Q3 28mm will only be bought together with a Q3 40or 50mm variant.

I don’t use my M cameras for travel any longer, only for more intent full photography; A Q3M 28mm might fit in there.

In the M cameras I really miss the in viewfinder live histogram and horizon level display and well as haptics that allow single handed and  LCD use at high and low levels.

The CL has very good for travel, but investment stopped too early, so the series never got a 18/(23)/35 (28/35/50 e) set of summicrons i.e. lenses with a good balance of size, speed and performance.

The Ricoh GR series culiminating in the GRIII and GRIIIx worked well for me, but ultimately the lack of veiwfinder has become too bothersome and the 50mm gap required a non idential camera ( even used 0-series replica for that ).

That has forced me into the Fuji camp with a pair of X100Vs and WCL/TCL to get to 28/35/50 e. The cameras lack image stabilization and the TCL is rather bulky; other than that they do very well.

This is what where a Q3-28 and Q3-40 come in. A Q3-50 I fear would require too large a lens and the 40 is more useable if carrying a single camera.

The only other consideration is that if I switched fully to Fuji, and did not need to fund 20 years of Leica upgrading, I could retire a year earlier !

New glass? I think the Q3 is fixed lens

Exactly. You like the glass in your Q2. Buy a Q3 and you have to buy new glass (because it comes with it) instead of being able to recycle your old glass from your Q2.

You sound like a good candidate for an X100V.  :)

Great jpegs, in camera RAW processing, smaller and less $$$ looking than a Q and personally the 35mm full frame equivalent for my use would make a better "street" focal length.  I feel like I need to be uncomfortably close at 28.  I am not really a street shooter though.

For casual shooting on my Fujis I'll sometimes choose film simulation bracketing creating multiple jpegs SOOC.  Pretty neat.

I have a Leica D-LUX 7 and I have looked around for another Leica that does in-camera RAW processing and so far, haven't found one. Like I said, the programming is already there because the camera already does it all when it produces a jpeg in-camera. The processing wheel doesn't have to be invented, the routines in the programming just need a front end to make that accessible in the menus. The D-LUX 7 has a vario summilux f/1.7 24mm-75mm which is pretty good. It produces 17MP images for 4:3 but you can opt for other aspect ratios and I nearly always use 3:2 (I started off with film (24x36mm and 54x68mm Mamiyas) in the 1980's so that is may excuse). The weak points of the D-LUX 7 are its lack of water resistance (although I (touch wood) haven't had any problems with that yet - again, it comes with always treating cameras with respect because my miniature and medium format cameras were never expected to be water resistant so got into the habit) and, the sensor could be updated to the same type of sensor we have now. Apart from that, the lens is excellent and the images produced are good enough for hi-res stock photography.

A Q3 would be nice if it was smaller and so on. To me, I need a camera that produces the goods but doesn't give some mugger the idea that it is worth taking off me. The Porsche that looks like a plastic pig (Reliant robin for anybody younger than about 50). The D-LUX 7 currently is the best fit. If I want to go bigger, I'll get a SL3 when that comes out.

The thing needs to have an interchangeable lens mount. I vote for L-Mount then I can have a small light EVF camera to pair with my M or S.

Doesn't get much smaller than the Sigma fp L.

Other. I love my Q2 Mono and, also, my Sony a7rIV. So, I have that 61MP sensor already. The last reason is that I have other higher priority acquisitions to make. However, I do like the Q3 specs. I would buy if I wasn't otherwise acquitted with a pretty good system.

I tend to keep and use my cameras for years…never been interested in being on the bleeding edge of technology. Leica’s X113 and T are still in my bag getting some use. I picked up a Q2 Ghost a few weeks ago and will likely be using it several years from now.

The Q3 holds no interest for me. However if it would have had a 50mm lens, I would have been tempted a couple of years from now, when the special editions start rolling out (black has never been my favourite colour for a camera). In all likelihood I will not buy another Q unless it is released with a different focal length. I get that the high resolution allows for good size crops, but the depth of field effect is not the same as when using a native lens.

Nope.  I do not like tilt screens for one thing…for the 16x20” prints I make for exhibition I don’t need 60mp (perfectly happy with my Q)…plus I don’t need to chase the ever changing bar that so many do…got better things to do with my money…like make lasting memories with my family.

My M4 lasted 25 years…the Q will hopefully last the same.

Don’t know if I will 😂

Put down my deposit on a Q3 at my first opportunity, missed Leica Melbourne’s first batch, now hoping the second batch comes in time to take it with me on my holiday.

Does the Q3 have GPS geolocation?

From the downloadable manual:

Quote

LOGGING THE SHOOTING LOCATION (ONLY IN CONNECTION WITH THE LEICA FOTOS APP)

Location information can be sourced from a mobile device in connection with the Leica FOTOS app. Current location information will then be written to the Exif data of the images (geotagging).
