Dude you overthink it. Get both, sell all your other cameras. I’m serious.

I have m11, and now am in process of acquiring a m10-r black paint. In-house treasurer forced me to sell Q2 in exchange of acquiring m11. Now she is forcing me to sell a patek before she can approve m10-r bp, I’m fighting this now.

Ha...maybe you need to sack your treasurer! I wish it was that easy...I love every one of my cameras for different reasons. I still have my old 1980s OM10 film camera. I've tried on many occasions but I always manage to convince myself that they're worth keeping. I must start off loading them soon...I can feel an SL2 and monochrome coming

The word on street is that SanDisk extreme pro is good, USH-I is fast enough, causing less freeze up. Though those are anecdotal.

If 50mm is going to be your first focal I suggest APO-summicron instead of summilux.

Thanks 19and9, I have a Scandisk extreme pro so I'll try that out. Unfortunately I can't quite stretch to the APO at the moment. It was between the 50mm lux and the 50 mm cron.  Do you think the cron ASPH would be better than the summilux? I also like the look of the 21mm super elmar.

Go with the 50 lux ASPH.

M11 50Lux Black Chrome - optically identical to the standard version.

Of those I would definitey recommend the 50 lux. At current prices I’d even get it over the 50 summicron-APO - I had both for a while and did keep the APO, but I got mine at a fraction of today’s prices and would not pay what it costs now. I‘d more likely get the Voigtlander if I wanted a sharp f/2.

Make sure you phyically feel an SL2 before you let the emotional feel decide for you - it is a heft to behold. Or leave at home, in my case. Or sell. The monochroms I find quite special.

Get some feeling on M system first before going crazily wide like 21mm. You will have hard time to see the 28mm frame lines, let alone 21mm

Not a problem with LV. Especially on the M11 that works beautifully not only with current lenses like SEM 21/3.4 but also with legacy lenses like S-A 21/3.4 or ZM 21/4.5 thanks to its BSI sensor. ZM 21/4.5 here.

Cron or Lux is a very subjective decision from my point of view. If you need that extra stop at 1.4, then you don’t have choice but go with Lux. Otherwise I hear that Cron is actually optically superior even though I don’t have scientific proofs.

I was in the same as you two months ago and decided to go with Cron at last but when I handled an APO and played it for a week I’m doomed , take my money and give me APO. It’s mind blowing.

in you case if APO is too much of a financial stretch, I suggest Cron then. Save the extra cash to something else. You have a long way to go with m system

I have no experience on 21mm though. And I suggest you don’t dive into that wide focal length yet. Get some feeling on M system first before going crazily wide like 21mm. You will have hard time to see the 28mm frame lines, let alone 21mm

Thanks, it's probably a good idea to start with the cron, I can always trade it in one I've become accustomed to the M system. I've also noticed that they are also a few used ones available now. 21mm should be ok with LV or EVF no?

I'm currently lugging a GFX 50s2 or a Canon 5d MKIV around so I don't mind a bit of the weight. The canon 5d has accompanied me on most of my travels. I've never felt fearsome with that in my hand.

If you are based somewhere that has a lot of overcast days the standard 50 cron may not be the best choice. If budget is an issue then I would suggest the Zeiss 50/2 planar.

lots of pop very low cost.

+1 if you like contrasty lenses. ZM 50/2 on M11 here. Not the best choice for gentle portraits though but the ZM 50/1.5 does nicely there too.

I think that's a great idea. Get the Summicron (almost any from iii to v) and then rent or physically compare it to the Summilux.  Make up your own mind.  I owned every variant of the Summicrons from v3 through v5 and the Summilux (current) at the same time. I compared them all side-by side and kept three Summicrons and sold the 'Lux and others.  Everyone's quest is different but mine (with Leica Ms) is to have superb IQ with the least weight and, for me, the Summilux is too, TOO, heavy for my liking and it provides little benefit.  IQ, as it has always been, is better with the Summicron if you want a lens that performs throughout its full range.  No one has ever challenged the Summicron when you compare any lens to it throughout its full aperture range. Not other Leica 50s, not Canon, not Nikon, not Sony... no one.  However, in your quest, you may find different results.

I bought my M11 last year and went for the 50mm Summicron because size was an issue for me. Very happy with my choice but it sounds like size and weight aren’t an issue for you so the Summilux could give you more options. Lots of great images on the forum from both lenses so I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

There are so many to choose from. Lightweight lenses with good IQ are essential for me also but I'd also like to test out some of the voigtlander lenses that offer more creative room.

I’m new to this forum in terms of posting but I have been observing here for quite a few years. The general consensus is that when you ask for the opinion of one camera and one lens you end up being recommended 2 bodies and 3 lenses at least :)

Seriously though , you cannot go wrong with either Lux or cron. Of course in the ideal world you should get both plus APO :d

It's probably better if I stick to just one for now. If I had all three the sun would go down before I decided which on to use. 😉

Nice pic!  There's an incredible amount of light where I live but I also like low light photography.
