farnz Posted January 16, 2023 Share #27 Posted January 16, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Al, Not a criticism in any way but I notice that you treat the 50/1.4 Summilux asph as a single entity when there are actually two different variants. The second variant is the 50/1.4 Summilux asph BC (Black Chrome), which was the first of Leica's 'retro remake' lenses and initially released as an edition that was limited to 500 copies (no longer true). The BC edition is more than simply the same lens coated in black chrome because it has a 43 mm filter thread instead of the original 46 mm filter thread and therefore the pictures it produces are subtly different with a touch more vignetting wide-open that, to my eye, resembles the gorgeous 'soft' vignette of the 50/1.0 Noctilux. Pete. You are of course correct, the lens of reference to which the thread is dedicated is the 46mm filter thread one. I plan to test both 50 ASPHs side by side soon. Anyone is welcome to post both lenses shot wide open at will, and any future 50mm Summilux as well (I feel a close focus one coming soon...). They are the same optically, even the size of the front element is identical. The filter size isn't the same because of the integrated hood that creates a larger diameter. Everything else is tripping. 3

Yes, I know, but some people believe they render differently or that they are two different entities 😊 will do side-by-side ASAP. 1

ELAN Posted January 17, 2023 Share #36 Posted January 17, 2023 The 50 Summilux asph was my first Leica M lens, and my favorite lens for many years. Sadly I hardly mount it since I prefer 35mm and 28mm now. Here are some wide open shots on the M240 from 2014-2015. Welcome, dear visitor!
