Michael Geschlecht Posted March 26, 2019 Share #1262 Posted March 26, 2019 (edited) Hello Justin, Welcome to the Forum. It is too bad that your camera & lens are gone. When I was learning photography a person who was teaching me said: When you think of where you might put your camera & lens down: Think of them as if you were putting a pile of $100 Dollar Bills down. And say to yourself "Would I be willing to leave a pile of $100 Dollar Bills sitting alone on the table when I got up to read the menu? Was it in a bag? I've found having a good bag and going as light as possible keeps me from leaving my camera on anything.

The light meter developed a fault and this M6TTL has been replaced with an MP under warranty. Hats off to Leica for wonderful service! Replacing a 2001 camera with one from January 2019 is amazing. This is remarkable. How did this happen? Was the M6TTL sold as new, which therefore gave it a warranty with Leica?

It did require pointing out that it was still under warranty and the turn around time was a little over five months, but I was given the choice of m-a or mp in either color.

And this with the choice of M-A or MP without spending more than what you've paid for the M6 ?

Either way, I’ve only ever been happy with the quality, but not speed, of several repairs to lenses and cameras. I figured choosing an M-A would be odd, as the faulty light meter should not then be an issue 🙂
a.noctilux Posted April 18, 2019 Share #1269 Posted April 18, 2019 (edited) Harmen, MP is closer to M6 than M-A in my thinking. Even if I prefer M-A more than MP, I've used MP for years to appreciate it more than M6 that I keep as sentimental reasons and "low price". In fact, I don't use them much these days (one M6 x0.72 and another x0.85) after having them "CLAed" (expensive as usual), and the sale prices of M6 seemed "too low" after this expense. Once, I used this beautiful Titanium coated combo M6 plus 35mm Summilux-M asph. Welcome, dear visitor! I can't think of too many other companies that would do warranty work on a NOS item that was discontinued decades ago, let alone offer to replace it with a brand new model that costs considerably more. Incredible.
a.noctilux Posted April 26, 2019 Share #1271 Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) Kind of miracle 👍. While we hear/read "most of time" complaints about poor Leica services, this counterbalances that. Edited April 26, 2019 by a.noctilux

Davidthefat Posted May 9, 2019 Share #1273 Posted May 9, 2019 I just recieved the 90mm Elmarit Titanium edition in the mail today. I'm so excited to go out and shoot with it as I've been eyeing it for months now. It sure looks right at home on the M6. Welcome, dear visitor! I'm interested to know what's between the zinc and the Black Chrome that appears when the chrome eventually wears away. In other words what causes the ashen patina mentioned? I would humbly suggest the following: How the camera is held, how the camera is carried, accidental bumps, is the most likely scenario for wear, tear and age. How users generally treat their equipment .... with kid gloves or otherwise. Does the user smoke, so many variables. How much is the Leica used. In addition our hands secrete oils, salt particularly in hotter weather and it is generally accepted that this will speed up or increase of desired patina. Take a closer look to one's eye glasses, or even one's mobile device be it phone or tablet. In the case of the Leica M4, M4-2, M4P, M6 and so forth, the black chrome will always wear to the underlying zinc. Wear and tear will almost be characterised by it's owner/user. Dare I suggest - a silver fox style Check out michaewj's post 😲 a classic user model. Welcome, dear visitor! Steve Ricoh Posted August 30, 2019 Share #1279 Posted August 30, 2019 Thank you EddieJ. I fully understand how thing wear; consequently it wasn't my line of enquiry. I'm interested to know (as an M6 owner) what is interfaced between the zinc substrate and the black chrome.
