Mr.Prime Posted January 5, 2023 Share #61 Posted January 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yup, Leica lost the chance to sell me a new M6. I would’ve bought it earlier had they been available but now I’m taking myself off the list. I will spend my money with Sekonic, Ilford, and Kodak instead. The new M6 is basically the MP but w different wind and rewind. Thanks. What’s there to check exactly? In no particular order: the red dot, branding, frame advance lever, viewfinder, tinny feel overall. I know most of those issues are going to be sorted out with the new M6 but I’m glad I went for the MP anyway.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 5, 2023 Share #63 Posted January 5, 2023 If I was in the game it would definitely be an MP. I much prefer mechanical perfection, and the button rewind.

To check the pressure plate (and the rest of the drivetrain) for potential film scratching, take a sacrificial undeveloped roll of film and fire a few shots through the camera. Then check the film strip to see if there are any scratches. If none - you're good. No need to dev the film, especially since is it much easier to see scratches on the undeveloped opaque film. mshchem Posted January 5, 2023 Share #65 Posted January 5, 2023 It's unimaginable to me that a new Leica scratches film, let alone several new M6 and MP models. What the hell is going on? As Huss describes, run a strip of film through the camera and look for scratches. Seems like a rational final inspection. Youtube videos seem to be Leica's greatest product. Jeez! Namely, film scratches or shutter issues? Just curious how widespread these issues might be. HI There No scratching - no shutter issues either. All seems fine to me best 1

None of these issues are M6 issues, they all exist on the MP too and have done so for years I’m assuming he means the rewind knob instead of crank.

mshchem Posted January 26, 2023 Share #72 Posted January 26, 2023 Has anyone heard of M6 deliveries in 2023? I wonder when the next batch will hit the stores? I don't need one but I really want one.

Sacrifice a cheap roll of film if you have that and just run it through the camera. Advance until the last frame and then rewind, but stop before the film goes into the canister. No need to take photos and get the film developed. Undeveloped film will also clearly show scratches, if there are any. But you probably know all of this. Becf Posted January 28, 2023 Share #77 Posted January 28, 2023 Here with my first post to confirm that Camtec in Montréal is getting at least one M6 next week. Shouldn't be there very long though, because they will be shipping out to me in Toronto when it arrives. I hope it's not a scratcher!

Further investigation is needed in other areas of the film path. Edited January 29, 2023 by Matlock
