Advertisement Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Hi apsza, Take a look here M11 - usb connector not shielded !. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
M11 for me Posted September 28, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2022 Hm, no iPhone has a shield. Can you specify the related problem? And its relevance while using the camera? I read a lot about this but I can not understand why this is important. I would not like to see a rubber piece sticking there.

You can always buy a third-party rubber plug, but I do not see why. I wish my other cameras had exposed USB-C ports. It is much more convenient when charging or transferring images. You can even snorkel with a smartphone that has an exposed port.

LOL you should do the NSA hot glue trick in the USB ports, to make sure nothing goes in or out!

apsza Posted September 30, 2022 Author Share #9 Posted September 30, 2022 The USB Port will work until it pollutes and then a German service technician will collect several hundred EUR.
Stef63 Posted September 30, 2022 Share #10 Posted September 30, 2022 I can partly understand the concern of the OP. All the connectors for example on an SL2 are covered. …but then the SL2 is a weather sealed camera platform, where the M platform is not. If one is concerned about debris and dust making the USB-C port inoperative, that same amount of dust and debris necessary to run into this situation, will cause much more damage to the lens and the camera entering through all the non sealed openings. Treat an M always as a non weather sealed camera and lens combination and I highly doubt you will ever run into a problem with the exposed USB-C port. And a simple lens dust air-blower will be your friend.

After all, A Pixel 6 smartphone with exposed USB-C port has an IP68 rating.
elmars Posted October 1, 2022 Share #12 Posted October 1, 2022 The USB-port of the M11 is weather sealed.
apsza Posted October 1, 2022 Author Share #13 Posted October 1, 2022 Thank you elmars, you reassured me a little. I thought that the entire housing of the M11 was sealed and USB was not. In turn, stef63 claims that the M11 is not sealed at all. I wonder, how it really is.
elmars Posted October 1, 2022 Share #14 Posted October 1, 2022 As far as I know, the M11 is sealed USB-port included) but not the lens mount and the lenses.

What I said is that the “M platform” cannot be considered weather sealed. Some parts of the M body may be dealing with weather, dust and debris better than other parts, but the most vulnerable part will be the lens. And it will be far more prone to problems than an unsealed USB-C (if that would be the case) Now good to learn that the USB-C port IS weather sealed - like others said - but still you will from time to time have to use some air brush to keep the electrical contacts clean of this port.
