smoothlander1 Posted September 3, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have several Leica bodies and lenses that I do not plan on selling anytime soon, if ever. I'm doing some "spring" cleaning and my wife wants me to toss the original boxes as we downsize to a smaller home. Does selling a Leica body without the original box reduce the value of the re-sale? My cameras are a Q, M10M and a film MP.72....all of which I love and plan on using for many years to come. Thanks.

zeitz Posted September 3, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2022 Always keep the boxes. Not only do they increase resale value, but a boxed product is also easier to sell.
250swb Posted September 3, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 3, 2022 (edited) Tell your wife each box is worth at least $100 on the secondhand price and see what she says then. And cameras more than lenses. Perhaps suggest getting rid of some handbags instead? Edited September 3, 2022 by 250swb

Mute-on Posted September 4, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 4, 2022 Keep the boxes. Get the wife to downsize her shoes, handbags, clothes, vases, decorations, etc., instead …
JohnW. Posted September 4, 2022 Share #7 Posted September 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Definitely keep the boxes and all other original accessories and paperwork. For example, 3 years ago I purchased a used M(240) from a dealer at a very good price. The dealer explained the lower price was due to there being only the camera, battery and charger. Had there been the box and all original accessories and papers it would have been $500 more. 1
smoothlander1 Posted September 4, 2022 Author Share #8 Posted September 4, 2022 Thanks for all your answers.....looks like I'll be keeping the boxes. I did also take the advice and suggested that my wife part with some of her purses and shoes. This now leads to my second question....who on this site can recommend a good divorce lawyer? 1
jc_braconi Posted September 4, 2022 Share #9 Posted September 4, 2022 Just keep them, they 'll increase the total value by their presence.
Pyrogallol Posted September 4, 2022 Share #10 Posted September 4, 2022 Even little boxes. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155147635134?hash=item241f8509be:g:eEMAAOSw-f5jFFth&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAkCT1PoITtLXXn%2F0ygYuCtWKRs0iOGdaWXkgGO6rZx9OJ5aCo1HSd6zP4QBFTPK2lFNSGVD%2Fv5uc83rjlk3C0jzAh2gZGZBuBxU4Zj8E9ezQxb8z9lBlNncsG%2BAY7UnFy25EZbWa5UmRSu5s%2BhB2GnrZUtkWda364ezG0SGi5exVDxgQn4McieHHLXVu%2FKcupTQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_j8-ZLhYA
rfaspen Posted September 4, 2022 Share #11 Posted September 4, 2022 I'm another box keeper. The reasons mostly well outlined above. I also know the difficulty of the spouse or partner who "just doesn't understand". My best wishes to you. Bon chance!

Herr Barnack Posted October 14, 2022 Share #13 Posted October 14, 2022 Keep the boxes. When you sell or trade, they will not increase the value of your camera or lens. If you do not have them though, you will lose thousands.

gilo Posted November 8, 2022 Share #17 Posted November 8, 2022 Talking about boxes, does anyone know why some boxes of old items (I am referring in particular to M lenses) have the serial number of the lens printed on them and some others have the serial number blank (or hand written)? Are the ones with blank serial numbers generic boxes not belonging to the actual item?
