So I assume this is not a "white tie" event?

@Ted99's jacket is perfect! Put on layers underneath - in case any of you have forgotten how standing around in 3C temperatures seeps through into your bones. A warm scarf and hat is also recommended

The weather forecast for next week Sunday and Monday is between -1 to +10C, sunny with clouds.

I am firming up numbers now and trying to make reservations for us on Monday and Tuesday night.

Please let me know if you are coming.

Plan is to meet in Basel SBB station on the main concourse at the foot of the escalators at 7pm on Sunday 26 Feb. We will travel by train to Liestal (for those in hotels, please check your transport tickets (Basel hotels give you free tickets for public transport for your stay) if they are valid all the way to Liestal, otherwise you can buy tickets at the station, but the SBB app is easiest and works in English too.

After the Liestal event, we shall return to Basel and hang out in a bar until 2am and then make our way to somewhere to stand for Morgestreich. After the first parade, I will go home for some sleep.

We shall meet again in the afternoon at 2pm at Wettsteinplatz. IT is an area that has two marching routes converging and is walking distance to Mittlebrücke or to Bankverein. Come as far as you can by tram but then you will have to walk, or go to Badischer Bahnhof and walk from there as trams will stop running before 2pm.

In the evening I plan to book a restaurant - hence why it would be good to know numbers now.

Royal Palace (Indian) restaurant is booked for Monday night at 7pm. All are welcome. It is serviced by Bus 34 and trams 1/14 and 8 (Schuetzenhaus) whilst tram 6 (Brauesebad) is a little further away.

Hi Ravi

I regret I have to drop out too, due to work commitments and needing to sort car out after headbutting a deer on the M4  🚔🦌😱

Be sure to save me a three pointed hat... !! 🤡👍

No worries - there is hat with 3 corners with your name on it and if the hat doesnt have 3 corners, it is not your hat.

Sorry to hear that and we do miss you and Pete.

Some pictures from the Liestal event, which is quite extreme, but recommended by leading pyromaniacs:

If you consider Heavy Metal to be a bit on the timid side, try a brass-band under a bridge:

These things are wild. I'm glad I was not in row one when they passed. (M240 + 50mm)

It was quite an experience, and I come from a city which does not do Carnvial, Mardi Gras, Shrovetide, Fasnacht or anything this style. Fasnacht over here means you turn up at work, like every other day.

Kudos to Ravi for the excellent organization, local insight and choice of restaurant.
