You remember that some 10 years ago we found that 18 MPix was the unhealthy result of the pixel race. 12 was the sweet spot.

Yes, and normally 18 or 24 Mp is still enough today. Unless you print very large formats or love pixel peeping.

But sensors with smaller pixels are prone to deliver less clarity (or whatever you may call the effect that a 100% crop exhibits noise, sometimes even at lower ISO), even though current sensors are quite good in said respect. Unless you print very large formats or love pixel peeping. I have made exhibit quality prints at 24x36 inch size with files from my M-P 240. The M11 has 2.5 times the resolution of the M-P 240, so 60x90 inch prints would be doable. I'm not sure where I'd hang 5x7.5 foot size prints, though. As I have told my wife, we're going to have to get a bigger house. 😳 Edited October 11, 2022 by Herr Barnack

I considered myself very lucky.

Try to look at things at the same size (in cm or inches) and not at 100%. That is a significant difference. Then you will see that the more pixels do not produce more noise. Just more resolution. Thus, my black chrome M10-R has a BP sibling and I will sell my M10. Maybe the M12 will provide a more convincing update… 😉 The main reason why I did not go for an M11: I was always happy with my M10-R. IMHO, the 40 MP sensor of the M10-R seems to be the sweet spot for combining pixel clarity, high iso capabilities and resolution whereas 60 MP would be an overkill for me. Another minor point is the simplicity of the shutter - and the shutter noise. And on top, the BP looks great. Even better than expected. 🙂 I have been wondering if i should really let go off my M11, since it is my digital back up to M10r BP 😂 at first i thought the other way round but lately been using more and more of the BP instead

9ine Posted November 8, 2022 Share #95 Posted November 8, 2022 I have an M10 and walked into a Leica store today here in Germany ready to pull the trigger on an M11. Asked for the price of an M10-R on a whim and they just got one in the day before. Unused but sold before (person had to bring it back for money reasons after a day or two). After consideration I picked up the M10-R for 5K including warranty. Not an M11 but I can do a lot with 3k+ in the bank and even should be able to cover most of my expense selling the M10 or might add a lens now. Was too good of a deal. My M6 + the M10-R is all the Leica I will ever need.
M Street Photographer Posted November 9, 2022 Share #96 Posted November 9, 2022 Thats a very good deal. Did he tell the shutter count? Only Leica can see the shutter count, so why only 5k?
9ine Posted November 9, 2022 Share #97 Posted November 9, 2022 (edited) Actual price was 5400 Euros but still A LOT of saved cash. They did not even get to check the shutter count yet because the camera was out and back in the store within the same week it first sold and they only had it for a couple of hours before I walked in. It wasn't officially up for sale yet and they just got it out because I asked for it. It's the shop I always go to and my 3rd Leica I bought there so I don't think anything funny is going on. Camera is in MINT condition. Original sticker on the LCD still attached with no bubbles underneath so it was never removed I think. Feels just like my M10 with more resolution. I am happy and like I said, the 3k+ can be spent on other things since I don't believe spending it on the M11 would get me better pictures if we are honest.... Now if money was of no concern at all, sure I'd like an M11 ! Edited November 9, 2022 by 9ine 4
Chimichurri Posted November 11, 2022 Share #98 Posted November 11, 2022 I’ve been saying it. Best Leica M is the M10R.
lct Posted November 11, 2022 Share #99 Posted November 11, 2022 Interesting that a camera with slow live view and producing red edge with some legacy lenses can still be sold for almost the same price as the M11. The M10-R must have other merits i guess but i have no experience with it TBH.

Slow live view? 😅 M11 has slow start up. I would rather slow live view that I never use than slow start up. 5 hours ago, Artin said: Are you telling me that if you were offered an M11 for say 9,000 Dollars and an M10R for 8500 you would pick the M10R ? i would Edited November 11, 2022 by Chimichurri
