After reading all the comments posted about the image quality , or the lack of I went through the entire image thread of the M10R yesterday just to refresh my memory and compare.  I can say with confidence that the M11 images are sharper hold more detail and much better colour balance the the M10R page

I urge everyone to revisit the M10R posts and look for themselves.  I think we are just programmed to expect so much more because of all the hype

Respectfully, these are seriously downsized, JPEGd, sRGB converted files, the RAW development of which (assuming they were shot in RAW) has been done by one individual to their own taste. These threads are great fun for everyone to share their exciting new stuff and maybe to give an idea of the visual signature of lenses, but the only way to judge the files of the camera itself is to get RAW files of well exposed shots, taken by someone you trust to have focussed correctly,  using a lens you understand, and develop them yourself. Then on your output medium of choice (whichever screen or printer you usually use) make your critical judgements.

I honestly don’t understand the “lack of detail” posts here.

How are you determining that from max 2480px web resized images?

Agree with this comment. But it also raises the question as to what the 60 MP are for unless you're printing very large. I suppose you could be zooming right in on screen and marvelling at the detail revealed, which I can understand  - but only up to a point.

Google Ming Thein on ‘ultraresolution’ prints….

Printing very large and cropping.

Extra megapixels don’t do anything else.

And, once perspective control is back, better quality PC.

I would appreciate it if someone would put their pictures taken with the M11 on flickr and link them here, so that we could download them in full resolution. Then possibly also discussion about missing details would stop. Would someone be so kind? (I myself can only from the weekend on... 😉)

Agree, it gives more cropping options. Personally I never crop to any great degree since it starts to impact on the benefits of a 35mm format sensor, but I can understand why some do.

There is an evident magenta hue on several of your images posted here.

Flickr won’t help you with that either.

You’ll need a RAW file to determine the detail. I can (and so can you) produce two images with radically different apparent sharpness from the same RAW file. One of those will tell you nothing about the resolving power and captured detail, the other might.

Speaking of which, i think many here mistake sharpness, microcontrast and detail, as if they were interchangable somehow. They are not. If you’ve ever played with DCRaw and did some analysis of various camera RAW files, you should’ve noticed that ALL cameras output images that do not look sharp. Output of demosaicing algorithms is, by its very nature, soft. Very much so. All the percieved sharpness you see in the final product comes from unsharp masking and various other local microcontrast boosts applied *after* the initial conversion.

1) this has absolutely zero to do with the actual detail contained within, and

2) this is variable and adjustable during and after conversion

BTW, you can download a lot of DNGs at dpreview.com! Not the best photos, but interesting to experiment with - especially the ISO test at the end.

Thank you but while waiting for my M11, being in search of readings I read this article from dpreview:

https://www.dpreview.com/opinion/2213667251/leica-s-m11-risks-rendering-the-rangefinder-obsolete

This article and the related comments have made me so angry that I don't want to read any more of dpreview :) .. for now anyway.

I was excited to view this post as I have a black M11 on order. I realize that most of the images posted here are test shots, however, mostly all seem soft and lacking the detail that I would expect to see. These could have been taken with any camera costing way less than a Leica. I'm hoping that the image size posting limitation of this website is the culprit.

I honestly dont understand comments like this... Full of vague observations, no evidence at all and the usual  "These could have been taken with any camera costing way less than a Leica" comment etc etc. What exactly are you saying? That the camera is not good? That the posters are not good photographers? That the resolution of the forum is not good enough? I actually wrote about all this before, and posted multiple images for people to check resolution, sharpness etc, but I guess as I am not a "senior" member of the forum noone takes notice. This is what I said:

Many people here, people I am sure you respect, are telling you that this camera produces some of the best outcome from an M, in terms of color, dynamic range. Why dont you download some raw files from the internet and check for yourself?

All I can tell you is that it is the best M I ever had and I really enjoy using it, and I am not a person that prefers rangefinders.

And here is another "soft" test image to help the thread go back to sharing images... Focus is at infinity so dont check close objects for sharpness...
