It gets even more crazy.  The driver forged my signature! and misspelled my name and then proceeded to just leave it in my driveway.
The good news is that it is here.  Time to set it up and start drinking the Leica Kool Aid.  Thanks for the support, all.

You can be sure I’ll be asking a bunch of dumb questions for a while.   Loving the look and feel.

Still working out what strap(s) to go with.  For now the Barton 1972 braided is working.  I also have a couple Rock'n'Roll straps that'll work.  I really prefer going with the Peak Anchors for quickly swapping from strap to strap to wrist strap.

Very excited.  :)

Welcome to the Q2 Reporter club! Been Matte blacking some of the fighting text on the front which the filter partially obscured and also covering the holes. A few pics below. Waiting for some Hyperion ropes from Greece now :)

Honestly though, what a beauty! Sharing images from it on IG @nickhaley

Thanks!

A real beauty indeed. Will be a cool daily for sure.  Still undecided on a thumb grip and going filterless.

Serious first world problems.  Got my initial settings / menu items dialed in.  Time for some leaf shutter action and to see if the Fuji version Flashpoint R2Pro trigger works on the Q2.  I’d like to try some Strobist style shooting.

What a relief you finally have it! Congrats!!

I have the Rock n Roll Riviera Black Mamba on order since its texture looks to match the Kevlar. I'll post photos when it arrives.

Sounds like a great match.  Definitely want to see that combo.
Thanks - a major relief.  And the poor guys at Popflash must have been close to blocking my number with all this FedEx dumbassery going on. :D

Going filterless eh — interesting — I do feel I’ll use that hood a lot. If one scratched that front element (it’s concave, right?) would Wetzlar be able to help? I’ve no idea myself…

I suppose better safe than sorry but this lens hood is so similar to my Fuji 35 1.4 that has remained unscathed (knocking on wood) that I feel like the chances are pretty good it’ll be ok.

Pretty confident the front element would be replaceable worst case.

Front elements cost less to replace than you'd think, but with Leica everything is expensive.

Front filter for me is essential simply so I can wipe off rain/mist/dust, etc. with my t-shirt if I have to.

I can't think of any argument against a good filter - B&W or Breakthrough will not degrade the image and if used in conjunction with the Leica lens hood, you will never have to use the lens cap.  The only problem I have with the design of the Leica lens hood is when changing filters, but really only an issue with the Q2M when changing from a yellow filter to orange.

Not usually. I have had B+W and Leica UV filters (bought from B&H or Adorama) slightly reduce corner sharpness on some lenses at infinity and when reviewing at 1:1 or 2:1 magnification; including with shots from the Q2. Zeiss T* UV filters and Breakthrough have been the only ones in my use that don’t sometimes have this issue. I suspect with the Leica filters it might be just the quality. For B+W, I have wondered if their strong MRC Nano coating that prevents spotting and aids in easy cleaning may be to blame.

For Q2M, I left a light red filter on there almost all the time, so the hood wasn’t an issue. I’m glad Leica provides a protector ring for the threads when the hood is not being used, though. They don’t provide the same for the 28 Summilix M hood threads, just one for the filter threads, which seems odd.

Each lens element introduces additional aberrations. With good filters, they are very small.

Jim Kasson tests show increased potential for flare when using filters.

Most of the time, we would likely not see any adverse effect. However, knowing that it may have a harmful impact does not sit well with me.

I use protective filters only in harsh environments.

Hmmmm… maybe a filter is cheap insurance with a marginal downside.  I’m not a hard core pixel peeper so perhaps getting one is the prudent thing to do.

Last question for now.  :)

On the X100 - I really prefer a thumb grip.  Having a hard time ponying up $280ish w tax for rthe Leica branded one.
It’s either that or I get a JJC for $30ish and try to find a Plastidip color that roughly matches.

Decisions, decisions…

IMO, using or not using protective filters is a psychological thing. If it makes you more comfortable having extra protection, use it. Don't use it if you feel like you are degrading image quality.
I heard good things about Thumbs Up Grip for Leica Q ($138 at Leica Miami).

Rock n Roll Riviera Black Mamba: Terrible strap, and I'm quite disappointed. They say it's leather, but the top surface feels like some sort of cloth foam. The backing looks and feels like the lining of a fake leather jacket. It's just a gross and cheap-feeling strap. Worst part is they measure their 100cm strap not using the core of the strap but rather from the end of one split ring to the other – the result is their 100cm strap fits short on me like a child-sized strap. The Arte di Mano 95cm strap is longer than the RnR 100cm strap!

The Arti de Mano waxed cotton neck strap in black is a better match to the Reporter Kevlar than the RnR:

But for now, I think I will stick with the COOPH Paracord (126cm for crossbody) – the strap Leica used in the M10 Reporter promo photos.

I know I am heavily outnumbered, but what is so very wrong with the leather strap supplied with the camera? I have never felt the need to chase a better alternative.

Depends on the strap that came with it. The strap that came with the Q-P was unique, but the one that came with the Q2R is a bit generic, which is fine if you're ok with that.

Other straps can offer:

  • A way to personalize the camera
  • Wider strap or one with more grip that stays on your shoulder/body better
  • Longer strap so you can wear it cross body without choking yourself out when using it or putting it on and taking it off
  • Softer material that more easily lets you wind it around your hand to make it into a makeshift wrist strap
  • Etc.

Yikes!  I have the Hendrix in black and it’s pretty nice.  Sorry that the Mamba isn’t up to par.  Love the COOPH but have ordered a green/black paracord strap from a fellow on Etsy that will incorporate the PD anchors.
Will post some pics when it arrives.
