M11 without baseplate: Do You really know, what this means?

Another bad thing with a fixed baseplate is that you cannot put the camera in a half case without the base plate and almost retain the original wide form  factor. With a baseplate in a half case the camera looks almost square, and I hate that look. 😄

Real Leica users don't use half cases ...😶

No baseplate, such like the SL2/-S or Q2, is genius. Some of us actually use that M for some serious work and changing battery while the M is mounted on a tripod is a real pain in the ass. Also ever tried the battery release of the SL2/-S or Q2? It's super reliable and fast. I don't get why you won't want that in your next M.

The exterior design of digital Ms is gradually moving away from that of film Ms, towards a more mainstream camera design. The first big change was of course when moving to digital (M8), when the back was changed completely and the wind and rewind levers left out. Then the framline illumination window was removed and now the removable baseplate. So even if they made a new D version it would look less like a film M than previous ones.

M cameras are typically not used on a tripod, though I do not see why not. When do you use it on a tripod?
I am all for SL2/Q2/S3/X1D style battery release. Most cameras have flimsy battery doors that make battery change much slower.

Really, not a problem for me. I have arca compatible bases fitted to all my cameras though. Perhaps I don't shoot seriously enough.

If I may make an obvious suggestion - if you start out with a battery charged up to 100% you will significantly reduce the need to change batts when the M is mounted on a tripod...

There are many cameras that don't have a removable baseplate, so maybe it's now time to look at those as well? The more people say they like the 'specialness' of a Leica M the more they applaud it becoming ordinary. I predicted the M11 would also blow smoke, and so it seems.

I applaud the new models and changes coming down the pipeline now and in the future and will be curious about the changes that Leica deems appropriate
for 1 of their most popular and famous products. I feel that Leica knows what they are doing and regard their heritage highly.
I happen to like the look of the bottom plate, which is why i favor the Silver models, but if it disappears as suggested, it might make the M10R the highest resolution
"old Style" M body in the market and who knows, their values could actually go way up if users decide they still want them after the M11 comes out sans a bottom plate.

I may buy an M11 model when they are available but I am planning to KEEP my M10R as i really like the form and function of this particular M camera for my uses.

Somebody will get rich selling aftermarket plastic protection film for your mentioned baseplate.

Or aftermarket elephant hide baseplate protectors.

You pay your $40,000 USD up front and then settle in for a two year wait to get an order confirmation email.

Maybe some of us don't do super serious important stuff like you?

Battery never runs out on my m262 anyway.

Yeah but no baseplate is still the better design hands down even you if take out your M just for a few occasional shots. Everyone wins

I love it that the Leica M is become more of a consumable product to eventually become indistinguishable like all cameras with a back door. Lol. Who cares about quirks we just want homogeneous no frills cameras with an expensive pricetag 😂
