yes, my 24-90 went to 2.1 but my 90-280 stayed with 2.0 and wouldnt update

Another person commenting about the same for his 90-280 on the other forum—not taking the update. I thought member Photoworks commented he was able to update the 90-280 earlier on this thread?

I checked for the same during my AFC vers 3.0 burst shooting test today. Personally, I am now well aware of this low battery alert for burst shooting and frankly just need to remember to get a fresh battery if my current battery is below about 20% and I plan on burst shooting. Today I just replaced the battery very quickly when I saw that message and resumed the shoot. No big deal IMO if you plan for it. If it catches you unawares that can be a problem, but a quick battery swap gets you back in the action fairly quickly. I bought a very inexpensive and powerful RavPower USBC/PD PB for 4K video battery needs.

I didn't say that, it was in the press release .

But I have notice the camera doing an auto update of the 16-35 lens when I turned the camera on.. and after a min back in business.

Okay. That was not clear to me. I didn't see any quotes in your comment or reference otherwise. My mistake.

so I guess the 90-280 didnt get an update? what was it for anyway for 24-90? It already has linear focus from the last update.

Apparently not. More than a few have been trying to update the 90-280 today with no success.

I did not update my 90-280 firmware the last time, so this time during the 3.0 firmware installation it updated together with all my other SL lenses (16-35, 24-90, 75 to v2.1 firmware) only the updated firmware on 90-280 is V2 firmware.

Are you sure the 16-35 went to v2.1? My 16-35 went to v2.0 from the SL2-S v2.1 firmware.

Do we assume that the new algorithm improves normal AFc as well as iAF eye/face/body and tracking? Not really clear from Red Dot Forum article.

I read that the AF improvement is on:

1   Face/body detection mode;

2   AF Tracking.

Yes, but AFc is not AF tracking. It is continuous autofocus.

I would have imagined they rely on a similar system, only that the focus point follows the subject in tracking.... just like with people detection. In Spot, Zone, Area....etc the point(s) can use AF-C but stay where they are in the frame. Or is it a third way of autofocussing altogether?

I bet you feel better now we all have access to SL2 v 3.0 and you can chat about it openly. 🤪😎

You bet... I mean I can understand some people not liking my teasing, but this update was so laaate. I am glad people can use it now, indeed. It does feel like having a refreshed cameras for some parts.

Just be aware if you have video profiles they will be switched back to "photo" mode. Just revert them to video and save them again.

Now that I see this release included firmware update for all SL cameras and SL lenses, I think I understand why some on the internet thought it took a long time. Lots of moving pieces in this one.

And...I don't think I ever remember a camera firmware update that also auto-magically updated all my lenses too. IMO,  COOL, COOL, COOL 👍

Could someone else please check this for me?

I was just working through the firmware upgrade with the SL2 whilst sitting in my study which is very quiet.  When I held the camera up to look through the viewfinder I heard a soft continuous noise coming from the camera body, obviously only whilst powered up, but even if the camera is just sitting idle. Easy to hear in a very quiet environment, and quite obvious if I put my ear against the camera.

It is not lens focus or cAF related as AF was off, and it was still present when I mounted an M lens.  It is slightly louder when I half depress the shutter button in PHOTO, but not when i do so in VIDEO setting. I went through all other potential settings and couldn’t identify anything.

Camera function is fine. Upgrade went without a hitch and I’m very happy with the new features.

I don’t recall ever hearing this before the upgrade, but I may just have not heard it. Any ambient noise would drown it out unless my ear is against the camera body.

This may just be normal but does anyone else’s camera do this? If so I can ignore it but I’d be surprised if it’s normal…
