Pyrogallol Posted August 31, 2023 Share #261 Posted August 31, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) A cheap rough Leica Standard just came in the post and the shutter sounds good, will find out how good when I put a film in it. Have banged off an e mail to Leica for any records they have as it appears to be from 1940-42, no military markings but it would be good if it had some wartime history. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Hi Pyrogallol, Take a look here I love my Barnack. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TLG Posted September 1, 2023 Share #262 Posted September 1, 2023 I posted the following in a separate thread in the Collectors & Historica forum but since I don't deep dive into the history and certainly not collecting for collecting's sake, I think this thread may be more appropriate for my "Barnack love". I've asked the mods. to delete my previous post elsewhere. So... Being fortunate enough own a Stereoly system it's been fun to take the 1930s-style stereoscopic images it creates and view them with a 1930s stereoscopic viewer (viz: View-Master). It works! maxspbr Posted December 27, 2023 Share #265 Posted December 27, 2023 So many Beautiful cameras on this post! Here are my Barnacks: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Standard, III, IIIa, IIIb, IIc, IIIf, IIIg, All with the lenses that came with. I use all of them all the time and hardly I could say about a favourite. Behind them a great accessory, the FOOMA - to load Leitz cassetes at daylight. Accept 100 meters rolls, so it’s easier to handle a 400 feet Double-X.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! My newest pickup! A Leica IIa Sync model with chrome fittings. Looks to be a later conversion from the 50s. I was casually looking for a Sync model to add to my small collection, and this one I ended up getting for a decent price. Shutter looks and sounds great; I've got my collapsible Summicron and SBOOI on there waiting for its first test roll! Funny enough, it's baseplate locking mechanism was left nickel, the only nickel thing left.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! After the first roll, I didnt use the camera for a little while and went to load a roll of film a few months ago and the shutter is frozen. Its all jammed up again. The CLA and repairs I had done have no warranty. They said theyd have a quick look at it for me but given they are only open BH and I have to drive across town I just havent been able to get it back over there. Do I spend more money on it when i have already spent way more than its worth? Edited May 28, 2024 by mmanda
spydrxx Posted May 28, 2024 Share #271 Posted May 28, 2024 Advice a bit late, but you really should exercise these cameras at least monthly, even with no film loaded. A Leica technician, years ago, told me, "instead of sitting eating munchies in front of your TV at night, grab your Leica and run through all of your shutter speeds a couple of times, then you won't need my service for many years." I dry fire all of my cameras (Leica and others) usually each month. I'm surprised you didn't get a 6 month warranty on your CLA, that's pretty common. Good luck getting your issue resolved. IMHO the camera is well worth getting into working shape.

Do I spend more money on it when i have already spent way more than its worth? Although, as above, it's a good idea to exercise the shutter, the camera shouldn't seize up just a few months after a proper CLA. I suppose it's possible for the shutter to jam if (e.g.) a piece of film broke off and got stuck in the mechanism (this can happen if you don't trim the leader properly to the shape the Barnack cameras require), but if I hadn't done anything that might have caused the problem, I'd wonder if the CLA had been done properly in the first place. If they say it's going to cost more money to fix, I think I'd be inclined to try a different technician (you should be able to get some recommendations on the forum). mmanda Posted May 29, 2024 Share #273 Posted May 29, 2024 I figured it just went back to its previous state - or not working as it sat on a museum shelf for god knows how many years! good point re the regular shutter fire! Mental note taken for when it's fixed!

I was browsing FB Marketplace by chance, as I haven't come across any decent or interesting deals in a long time. This was the first thing that popped up, and I immediately contacted the guy. A few hours later, I was happily driving home with my new kit. Leica IIIf RD with no self timer. Three lenses were included: 5cm 1.5 Summarit, 3.5cm 3.5 Summaron, and a 13.5cm 4.5 Hektor. All the lenses and body were made in 1952. The kit also came with an OEM flash and the VIOOH finder. Everything has minimal bright marks on the chrome: the lenses themselves are extremely clean. Even the body's lower speeds function properly! I'll definitely be running a roll here soon.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Ambro51 Posted December 9, 2024 Share #279 Posted December 9, 2024 From my workbench, a replica of “the exposure tester” camera. Pretty close to the original, but when I built it I painted it black ( the original has unpainted brass ). Turns out the patina looks so nice I’ll keep it that way. That’s a Zeiss Kino Tessar, from 1911. Welcome, dear visitor!
