Although admiring the creativity I prefer objects to age gracefully and naturally in the same way I prefer my antiques as opposed to something new being buried a month or so to give it ‘that look’.  The reverse also happens - I’m reminded of the many who decide to give their antique bronzes a nice clean and polish prior to bringing it onto the Antique Road Show followed by the wide eyed ‘what have I done’ look when realising the markets perception of lost value.

I guess mine is similar

Made in 2002 with Leica using the delicate 'black lacquer' tree sap finish. It's never had a half case or anything and it's been bumped and knocked but not abused. There is some scuffing where the strap rubs which doesn't show in the photo. I can't remember where any of the scratches came from (so no fond memories of use), but I suspect are from stuffing it into my Hadley Pro with lenses and other cameras.

The lens is as lovely as the camera! Very Nice Pairing.

Philip.

But it can be the same for Fender Custom Shop Relic guitars, where Fender use better wood than their mainstream production guitars, far more attention to detail, each really is hand made, and some say the authentic paint finish also adds to the sound if a period sound is what you want. But the Custom Shop guitars can also play better than an off the shelf guitar whatever the specification is...

OK; I know I'm going way off-topic again...

Replicas apart Fender CS is trying to recreate a quality of instrument which didn't really exist across the production line back in the day and so in one sense are on a hiding to nothing but, conversely, are now at liberty to produce some very fine vintage-vibe modern guitars with a Vintage look but modern QC which will be received gratefully by their target market and Good Luck To Them say I!

Gibson's CS division, however, have had a real problem to deal with; their primary objective is - and has been since the early '80s - to recreate the 1959 Les Paul. Their first 'official' '59 R-I came out of the Historic Division (as it was then named) in 1993. It was a superb piece of kit and as close to the real-deal as Gibson could produce at the time. Unfortunately for Gibson their target market is slightly more demanding than is Fender's and this has resulted in a farcical year-on-year "The Closest Yet to the Original!" proclamation.

Numerous changes 'to get back to the historically accurate design' later things pretty much came to a peak when, several years ago now, the Custom Shop returned to using animal-based adhesives to fix the neck ("Long-Tenon" of course!) into the neck-socket. This will probably only really appeal to folk who know what was happening within Gibson at the time and  HAS to be watched with subtitles selected to make any sense in this context;

How about a kinsugi (the ancient Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold) recreated Leica M3 from JCH? Do you find it ugly or not? (Still: Instagram)

Too bad the plates are not made of pottery. This just creates a strange combination.

M 10 R BP shutter button failing

Did someone had an issue with the shutter button not working properly ?
I had to send mine back to Wetzlar and am awaiting the verdict 🙂

A couple of us did, if you scroll  a few pages back.

Was able to send it back to my local service centre and they were able to fix it without sending them back to Wetzlar. Basically it involved them opening up another brand new regular M10R unit to grab some components and replaced the defective M10R BP one.

Not sure if all service centres have the same approach/ autonomy (others in the threads say they were able to fix it by tightening some loose screw), but i got mine back working perfectly now (hopefully forever). It sucks but yeah it is what it is...

Thank you for the info ! It’s a bit weird however that a couple of days ago in Wetzlar they did not know anything about this issue...  🙂

Yep, it hurts for about 15 minutes but then the feeling turns to a very liberating one because, now you Don't have to think about it too much and you feel like you want to Take the camera out more  to do some Actual Photography rather than just sitting Pretty in the Dry Box!

Initially was worried about the resale value but given the lack of clarity of whether it's just a limited run of 2000 units, either price will not go up that crazy in the long run, or should be possible to secure a backup set for long term collection/ investment, but I usually don't bother about these kind of things.

Happy to use this unit until it no longer works!

Yes, let them have their battle scars. — PS: I’m an Instant-Baseplate-Foil-Remover-Guy. 😁

The M8.2 black paint finish seemed far more durable.

Would obviously be a shame for a nine grand camera. But on the other hand… see dsetiono01’s comment above and all these fake brassing tips in this thread.

Talking of disappointments, sort of. There are two things I find quite anoying after spending so much money: the plastic cover of the hot shoe and the very simple X1-like strap that comes recently with every M10.

Anyway, a 13 year old lens finally got his matching buddy… body. I guess I'll have to take some pictures with this setup next. 😂

That is a beautiful match. Not sure I can ever secure any BP 50 at an acceptable price, though. Sometimes luck kicks in, so while late to the party, I was able to obtain one M10RBP. As for straps and flash shoe cover: Generally agreed but I would anyways not use the Leica strap and actually there are aftermarket "solutions" for the plastic cover. I purchased a BP Thumbs-up which I am happy with.

Looks good! But that lens is more like 20 years old. The serial numbers on those are deceptive, as those numbers were used by Leica way before the regular lens numbering approached those numbers. I recall seeing a lens like yours and a matching black paint Summicron 35 asph in a shop in 2000 or 2001, and they both had serial numbers starting with 4 xxx xxx. Those lenses were released together with the Millenium M6TTL black paint. I think there was a black paint Summicron 90 asph available at the time, too.

Of course ! It looks 60 years old now, except for the screen. I love it.

Needs some chips in the paint for the look to be complete. Maybe mask off the LCD and viewfinder windows and shake it up in a bag full of small rocks. 😁

Just got my mine, only to charge up the battery and find that the shutter would only fire through FOTOS or intervalometer.  Leica NJ walked me through a reset the involved removing the SD card (didn't help), quoted me 3 weeks for repair, and recommended that I just return it to the dealer.  The dealer said (hopefully) 3 weeks for replacement.  Sigh...
