if it’s to reflect the relationship of human and building, then some vignetting could be a good feature.

if it’s showing a building surrounded by sky and landscape, again, it ‘s fine  

if showing a section of building, then the vignetting’s better corrected.

the real challenge is the corner softness.  No way to ‘correct’, unless cropped but need to be considered when shooting. And it’s not a 28mm anymore, so quite limited.

I heard distortion is none which make it superb for architecture photographing.

I guess it more to personal taste.

You’re going around in circles trying to make a decision by guesswork.  If the image thread that is mentioned more than once in this thread doesn‘t answer your questions or otherwise convince you, then the sensible thing to do is try a 28mm summation-m for yourself or forget it and play safe with a 28mm elmarit asph or 28mm summicron asph instead.

I have the 28mm summaron-m and the 28mm summicron  asph v1,  the summaron-m is the one I use the most.  I enjoy the 28mm summaron-m for all the reasons that seem to be a cause of concern for you, but then I am the kind of photographer who Leica have in mind with the reintroduction of this lens.  Only by using it will you discover if you are, too.

The image I posted was taken with the 28mm f5.6 Summaron.

Here it is again.I still have this lens and love it , particularly on film.It has a dreamy look but the resolution is good.Combined with a BW film its just gorgeous.

It may not suit your use but for casual landscape and street its a dream to use.Yes its heavy, but the tiny size makes it a perfect balanced lens for any M camera.

I'm actually reading the post and just started looking at the images now. 

I didn't start this post although it looked like I did:) I just asked about this lens in another post but as it's irrelevant to that topic so a monitor might manually cut the post and started a new one here.

Once I viewed the images I might not need to ask any questions. But if I didn't ask I wouldn't find that 85 pages post that early.

As a new M user, I found this lens actually provides 85%, if not more, of all my needs. That's ridiculously cool.

Just go for it............New it's one of Leica's cheapest lenses now that the Summarit's are no longer made and anyway there was no 28mm Summarit. It has a classic feel and look all of it's own especially so on film and / or B&W. If you are still on the fence, plumb for the Elmarit. It's a great lens, no question about it, and sharper corner to corner than the Summaron, the Elmarit is one of my own favourite lenses too. You will not lose too much if you decide to sell the Summaron after putting it through it's paces, they do keep their value pretty well.

The only thing I don't like about the 28mm Summaron is the ridiculously over-sized lens hood, but I have bought a cheap, ( 4.5 Euros / Ebay ), Chinese made vented 34mm hood that is so much better in use than the OEM one in my opinion, much less, close to zero VF obstruction unlike the OEM. Anyway with the front element so set back from the front of the lens 80% of the time you don't need to use a lens hood. Get a simple plastic "squeeze on" lens cap too, again better than the €94 metal cap that is too loose a fit and would oh so easily take a walk. A plastic 34mm "squeeze on" cap ran me €3 Euros for a pack of two.

My reference above is to the old Summaron LTM and not the new one..please disregard my post!

I only own the older lens which was used for the shot above.

With such a tiny front element that is deeply recessed I have used mine without a hood and without problems. In any event, the crackle finish hood is such a thing of beauty it is best kept in its lined box!

I bought one a couple of years ago when I visited Leitzpark a couple of years ago. A really cute and compact lens, great for street snaps and travel light.

It’s very inspiring that the perfect solution comes from such ‘imperfect’ specification.

I just love this lens. Sure, optically it sucks (except for dead-on center) but the results can be lovely.

No, it's perfectly fine to use on any M body. The lens has been glued to my awfully low iso M9 since I got it when it came out.

At f/5.6, the rendering is second to none.

For informal snaps, like here, nothing to complain ( LTM 2.8cm though )

I would not say that it is just vignette. The corners are somewhat mushy.

I say this as someone who really likes the overall character and rendering of this lens. But I am not sure if I wanted to use it for acrchitecture.

Oh yes, it’s more than just vignetting. Corners are blurry, smeared and a strange purple/magenta in color images, particularly digital. This is not an architecture lens.
