setuporg Posted April 5, 2021 Share #81  Posted April 5, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a nitpick, but the SC in the subject always stumps me for a moment until I guess it's "SummiCron". I'd rather it be SL, as SC is not a common abbreviation, the 28 APO SL is much more common of a reference, and SC is much more likely to mean South Carolina in the US. Except SL might mean  SummiLux. It’s good for my old brain’s neuroplasticity to have to sort out these puzzles.

This is an excellent example of the narrow DOF and smooth roll off to OOF ..that Karbe explains in his discussions of the SL Summicrons.
beewee Posted June 30, 2021 Share #91  Posted June 30, 2021 (edited) Finally got the 28 APO in hand. I’ve been on the fence for a while since I mainly shoot 24mm but seeing all the creamy bokeh from the 28 and 35 APO got the better of me. I haven’t had a chance to really give it a good test but with the few shots that I’ve taken, I’m really liking the way it renders wide open. The silky smooth bokeh is so different than anything else and the only way I can really describe it is that it looks organic but also digital in the sense that the only time I’ve ever seen such smooth falloff is in computer generated images like in movies where the bokeh rendering is all ‘perfect’ since it’s all simulated/modeled mathematically without any aberrations. The look is definitely unique to the APO Summicron SL lenses. I was also quite surprised how dense the lens feel in hand. It’s got the same densely weighted feeling as the 35mm FLE. beewee Posted July 4, 2021 Share #92  Posted July 4, 2021 I’m really liking the smooth low contrast bokeh and high contrast in focus subject separation of the APO 28 SL. Now I’m really looking forward to getting the 21 and 24mm versions. Welcome, dear visitor!
