I have no connection to this chap but I totally agree.   I have around 25 leather, rope, braided, peak design leash etc etc straps hanging in my office... this old Leica strap is by far the easiest to work and walk with.  14312

https://johnnymartyr.wordpress.com/2019/03/14/the-best-camera-strap-in-the-world/

The standard leather strap that came with my M10 drives me crazy because it slides down from my shoulder all the time. I once had an M9 with the 14312 and now I remember how nice it was. Thanks for reminding me of this.

BTW: Some of the 14312 straps have the Leica logo written the script font, but some (most) have a sans serif font, even though they share the same product number. Does anyone know anything about this? Are the ones with the script font newer?

I have not received my 14312 yet. Is it possible to remove the little plastic locking-sleeve just by sliding it off?
In that case it may be possible to use this clever attachment on some other straps.

Best M10 Strap

My nominees for the best strap for any M camera would be -

https://www.harrybenz.com/shop/vintage-b  (or any strap made by Harry)

and - https://artedimano.com/Leicastrap/?idx=130  (or any strap made by Arte)

The Mosel looks like a good choice, too - https://us.oberwerth.com/products/camerastrap-mosel-casual

Du you have the Mosel? Do you know if the neck piece is removable?

@Almizilero  Sorry, but I don't have the Mosel.

Based on looking at the photos in the link, it looks like removing the neck pad would require making a cut in the pad parallel to the strap itself to remove the pad, or removing the attachment rings then cutting off the circular scratch protector and the leather piece that holds the connector rings in place then pulling the strap through the pad.

The anti cut feature of the strap is nice, but doing all that surgery to remove the pad seems like more trouble than it's worth.  I would leave the pad in place or acquire a strap that doesn't have a pad to begin with.

I received the 14312-strap today.

Now looking at it in real life, i can't really see the point with it.
The specially designed steel ring is not really much easier to attach or remove from the camera lug than an ordinary split ring. It is rather stiff and I can't open it easier than a split-ring. And, now when I think about it - even if it was much easier to attach and remove i.e. - what is the purpose? If I want to easy change between straps, the other ones have the usual split ring...
My main thought buying it was that the connection part should be easy to use with any other strap, but it isn't. The plastic sleeve has a rod inside, which must be cut away of for removal and to get an universal use for the connection-part. Besides that, the plastic sleeve isn't roomy enough for use with a leather strap-end.

So, maybe the only unique actual advantage is that the sleeve doubles as a kind of camera-scratch-protector. But that function is of course the same as a leather-protection-ring. And - that it protects the ends of the ring to wear the lug-hole.

It was about 40 Euros, so not so very much money wasted.

Just found this adjustable Cooph-strap. But it seems that it isn't available in black.
Better make one myself, it cannot be too complicated.

Thank you! That's pretty much what I thought from the photos. Seems like it wouldn't come of easily, so not worth the efforrt :(

I find that these "rope straps" and many designer leather straps are generally cumbersome and get in the way of operating a camera.  IMO the 14312 is the best strap available for actually USING a camera.   However, I cannot deny that the exotic straps are superb at looking exotic and if I displayed my M10RBP on a shelf, it would have a fancy strap on it!  :)

And even better is the Upstrap imo. The side cutouts on the pad make it sit on the shoulder evenly and not feel as if it's going to slip, and the pad itself is more flexible than the 14312. The boutique straps are just an excuse to spend money, as for some, 'pimping' an M is more fun than actually using it.

For me, too many straps are bought. But not actually of aesthetic reasons. Rather because i want something functional. I.e. functional and without any disturbing con's.
Because of the maybe six or eight ones to this date, it seems rather problematic to find the "perfect" one. I demand it to funktion both as a wrist-one and as cross-body. It must be supple to allow a good, "obedient" loop. I don't like to just wrap it around my wrist. The black one below is my so far preferred one, with minimal compromises to my demands. I don't like too flashy straps or too elegant either. I want to be discreet and not really observed as a photographer.
The one that is adjustable in this intelligent way may be even better, but maybe a little stiffer to make a wrist-loop with.

Silly prices. The black is about 55 euros and the adjustable a bit over 100.

Another vote for the Rock n Roll "M" Black strap. Mine is the slim version. II was able to order a longer strap that allows me to wear my M cross body or around my neck. I prefer a non-adjustable strap and most are just too short for me. Mine is 150cm and works great!

I ordered the green one directly from Cooph yesterday. No shop seems to have it in stock or even on website.
My reasoning for buying and not making a similar myself was that the purchase of the material needed will be a substantial amount of money too. Leather, rope, appropriate thread and well made split-rings isn't for free, and probably I need to buy much more than I need for the strap.
Some kind of report may come when it has arrived.

I like the original one too, if only it hadn't slipped off the shoulder all the time. A small anti-slip shoulder pad would probably do the trick.

For me too.

I'll see how it will age...seems more fragile than the nylon 14312 model 🙂
