The Contax-to-M adapter allows you to use some special devices from the Contax system. E.g. this focussing head for macros:

With the 1:3.5/50mm Tessar and the close-up device the results look like this from the M10:

With all the great images and information about the Contax to M adapter, it has me thinking twice about selling my adapter.  I have been intending to sell it for the past six months.  I have one lens, a 50/1.5 Sonnar, purchased in 1972 with a Contax IIIa body.  Seldom used, it takes great images and similar to Leica it’s build quality is impressive.

I just did a search for this in the forum and web and couldn't find anything so I'll ask here.  Is it possible to use a Nikon 85-D f1.4  F mount on an M240 using either the analog view finder or live view using an adapter?

Do LTM adapters/lenses count? I have a Contax to M adapter for an ancient Yashica 70-200/4, and a Nikon to M one for a Nikkor-P.C 105/2.5 but neither of these lenses gets much use, excellent though they are. By far my favourite adapted lens on an M (apart from the Leica R series, which I feel doesn't really count) is the Canon LTM 35/2; it's tiny, inexpensive and excellent, sharp as you like, and nice bokeh wide open; the only drawback is that it flares like mad if you let it. I have a Leica 35, but the Canon still gets taken out quite often.

If LTM adapters count, here is my favorite adapted lens: Canon 50mm 1:1.2.
Although one step behind the famous f0.95 »dream lens« the swirly bokeh is very similar.
The later introduced f0.95 was more or less an enlarged f1.2 design.

Carl Zeiss Jena 1:2.8/18cm "Olympia" Sonnar:

Though for this lens the Contax-to-M adapter is a negligible problem. I would be very happy if I found any adapter which let me get rid of the extremely bulky and heavy "Flektogon" reflex housing:

Hi RF. Could I ask where you had your lens converted ? I have the 50mm 0.95 on the original Canon 7. Would love to get it adapted for my M262 and M7. Thanks

Wow...this looks very interesting!!

I just scored a decent deal on the EVF for the M10M to come in later this week.

I'd really love to try out some macro shots, and this vintage macro look appeals to me!!

Thank you for the post!!

Yes, I think those LTM adapters count too!!

;)

You and a LOT of others seem to really enjoy the Contax to M adapters.

Can anyone recommend a good one of these?

I must admit I really don't know much at all about Contax cameras/lenses and will have to research those.

Can someone give any background in general about Contax and what you like about them?

Are these older Contax lenses available at reasonable prices? Are they all in general good, or just a select few as mentioned here previously?

Thanks in advance!

C

Even if I do use some adapted lenses on M,

I don't have prefered ones or favorites ...

I just use them when I need their special features, macro or near focus or large field, or why not zoom, etc.

😇 I do have some favorite LPs

Well, as I said, my one remaining Yashica/Contax lens (the 80-200 f4 zoom) actually gets very little use these days. I use a cheap K&FConcept adapter on it and they work just fine on my SL and M.

I'm not a camera/lens historian so can only tell you my own experience with Contax. My first serious camera, around 1980, was a Contax 139, initially with a Zeiss/Contax Planar 50/1.7, then, when I could afford it, a Zeiss/Contax Distagon 25/2.8 and the Yashica/Contax zoom. Lovely little SLR, designed in partnership with Porsche - I was very proud of it and used it very happily for nearly twenty years, mostly with Kodachrome and Fujichrome; I still have it (see below) but it hasn't been used for many years. The two Zeiss lenses were a joy, especially the 25mm; I stupidly sold them for peanuts when I had a Canon AF system, didn't know anything about Leica and didn't realise that manual focus lenses were still viable. The 25mm seems to go for £250+ on eBay, the 50/1.7 for £100+ - maybe worth a punt?

Of course you can! But it’s not converted. It’s a genuinely LTM mount lens combined with a standard LTM/M adapter. But perhaps these two addresses may help:

Has anyone worked with adapting Leica R lens to their M cameras?

The reason I ask, is that I've been seeing some ads locally, selling some Leica R lenses, along with old film SL and R4 camera bodies.

The lenses are a mix of Leitz Summicron - R 50mm, Leica Leitz Elmarit - R  135mm F2.8 , Leitz Elmarit - R 35mm F2.8

Does anyone know much about adapting R lenses onto the M cameras?  Are these lenses as well made as their M counterparts?  I do see that they're considerable larger.

I'd looked on eBay and going price range for these seemed to be in the $200-$260 range...does that seem about right?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Cayenne,

To use Leica R lenses on M body, current Leica R-Adapter M ref 14642 like this one

has six bits coding to tell the M10 allowing "manual choice" of selected Leica R lenses.

I use with some R lenses that don't exist in M mount like the best long focus lens Apo-Telyt-R 4/280, or Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 2.8/100, and shift lens,

PC Super-Angulon-R 2.8/28mm ( see this thread ) and many more as I have them since long.
