Apparently, they went through the roof these last few months. I definitely remember having seen some offers in the USD 300..400 range. However, you might fetch a better offer looking for a set (the "real" CL with one or two lenses, or even the two lenses without the body). I have seen offers in Germany, Austria and the US of A. I don't know which of those is the most useful for sending parcels to nowhere.
gteague Posted August 26, 2020 Share #184 Posted August 26, 2020 (edited) i actually have a voigtlander 40/2, but it's nikon mount. very nicely built lens and my only voigtlander ever. i guess the wise, although not the authentic choice, would be their 40/1.4 nokton at $400 new. and yeah, i'm seeing the combo for $1k give or take (mostly give) a few hundred bucks. list near mint for under $400 and a combo for $800 if you're willing to order from japan. both sellers have 100-300 sales though and it might be a good gamble. /guy Edited August 26, 2020 by gteague
jaapv Posted August 26, 2020 Share #185 Posted August 26, 2020 What is wrong with buying from Japan? I have had only good experiences buying from legit Japanese sellers.

I have had only good experiences buying from legit Japanese sellers. nothing at all. i've done it upon occasion. but i'm always more cautious when ordering from overseas. i remember buying a device which was still in manufacturing process from what i thought was a french company and got billed from bulgaria. or romania. i got a cold chill, but let the order continue. turns out every single 150 or so of us got burned with what was not even useful as a doorstop. i actually got two of them. i was able to stop payment even though it had been like 45 days and was going to offer to return them, but the guy (who was italian) had fled the country by then. so, as the saying goes, once burned, twice shy!. in any case, i have too many lenses to use already, so i think i'll put this on the back burner and put the money towards a new ham radio being released next month. if the zombie apocalypse manifests (and i fully expect it to) a radio will be more use than a camera. /guy Edited August 26, 2020 by gteague
lct Posted August 26, 2020 Share #187 Posted August 26, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) No problem with either Summicron-C 40/2 or M-Rokkor 40/2 for Minolta CLE on the digital CL. Those are not WA lenses though due to the crop factor (60mm FoV). Never heard of tightening needs on those lenses but i may be wrong. Only issue i've got with the Rokkor is lens calibration on non Minolta RFs but it is not a problem on the digital CL. Filter size is 40.5mm on the Rokkor so no need to look for Series 5.5 filters contrary to the Summicron-C. A reason to prefer the latter is the smaller size of its rubber hood and hood cap though but they can be expensive in good shape. FWIW.

jaapv Posted August 26, 2020 Share #189 Posted August 26, 2020 Different focal lengths. I would put the Rokkor at the same level as Summicron 35 version IV.
lct Posted August 26, 2020 Share #190 Posted August 26, 2020 Just now, gteague said: is there a valid comparison between the 50 summicron and the 40 rokkor when used on the cl? /guy IQ wise, similar as Summicron 50/2 v3 or v4 more or less, or Summicron 35/2 v3 or v4 too. Bit soft at f/2, compared to modern lenses, but plenty sharp at f/4 and on. As for FoVs better order a 35mm lens if you're after a similar FoV as that of 50mm lenses on FF cameras.
gteague Posted August 26, 2020 Share #191 Posted August 26, 2020 i actually prefer a 'normal' of 60-80 over a 40-60 as it can double as a portrait lens and i don't go into tight places--at least not voluntarily. /guy
lct Posted August 26, 2020 Share #192 Posted August 26, 2020 Then 40mm or 50mm will do it.
gteague Posted August 26, 2020 Share #193 Posted August 26, 2020 (edited) ok, i pulled the trigger on a lens for approx $400 with fedex priority shipping. says near mint and has a hood, although i don't know if it's the original hood--some of the lenses i looked at looked like they had that b&w rubber hood. i was sorely tempted to double that amount for a lens/camera combo, but it's just way too much trouble to muck around with film. that's behind me. is this the hood? looks exactly like the one b+w sells and i have at least 2-3 of those, although not in 40.5 size. lct Posted August 26, 2020 Share #194 Posted August 26, 2020 This is not a Rokkor 40/2 for Minolta CLE but for Minolta CL. Just a clone to the Summicron-C with 40.5mm filters. Very good lens anyway.

Most are in good condition, but many need tightening of the ring that holds the optical cell to the barrel - a 10-second DIY job. Try and find one with the original rubber hood - it has a weird filter thread (the Leica version). The lens hood takes a series 5.5 filter. The Minolta lens has a regular 36 mm filter AFAIK. The Minolta versions use a standard JIS 40.5mm filter thread, both the Rokkor-M 40mm and Rokkor-M 90mm lenses. I have had both of them, still have the 90mm f/4. There's a vendor on Ebay who makes nice metal replacement hoods for the 90mm in either JIS 40.5mm or DIN 5.5 thread. I have them too. G
gteague Posted August 27, 2020 Share #196 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) what other famous camera has a 40mm lens? which one of you yahoos posted that shot of the beautiful little rollei a few months back? it's been in the back of my mind ever since and it's always a dangerous day when i'm loose on ebay. you can put these items together i'm sure and draw a conclusion. of the hundreds of cameras i've owned, i've never owned a rollei, not even the famous tlr model because those things are the devil's toys and i cannot focus a ground glass. btw, i already got a fedex tracking # for the lens so that shipper is on the ball because i got it like 0800 tokyo time. that gives me every confidence. [later note: i have batteries as i bought them for a classic sekonic meter, but when did film become $10 a roll? i think the last roll i bought was about $2.50. i bulk loaded of course for b&w and bought single rolls of color when i needed them.] /guy Edited August 27, 2020 by gteague

G You're right there. 36 was memory fail If you mean Heavystar, be careful with his 5.5 adapter. I once had to call in Will van Manen with a hacksaw (or whatever tool he used ) to cut the adapter ring out. Not only is it from Aluminium, which binds easily, the threads are quite imprecisely cut. If you get one out of tolerance, you are out of luck, as I got some response from fellow-sufferers on RFF.

lct Posted August 27, 2020 Share #200 Posted August 27, 2020 I haven't used mine for decades so i don't remember sorry. BTW my SE is black and when i used it together with my M4-2 + 35/2 v4 i often preferred the Sonnar. Pity the Rollei has no focus aid though so f/2.8 pics were hit and miss to say the least. No crop factor and equivalent things then
