My fp had problems with video output, which I reported to Sigma, and received an acknowledgement, after sending them files. It was sorted a couple of months later in the last major firmware update. I don't see Sigma as uncommunicative, and sometimes as unresponsive, as Leica is to such issues, though it may take a short while to sort out. Of course it is up to you guys if you wish to sell your lenses straight after buying them, but based on my experience, I would be inclined to hold on for a while. OTOH, if anyone wants to sell their nearly new lens at half price, please PM me. You're not having mine yet😁.

jaapv Posted September 2, 2020 Share #83 Posted September 2, 2020 Another thing I noticed: using Electronic Shutter improves results on the CL. I don't know whether this is shutter slap - it is considerably lighter than the SL after all - or that there is an influence on AF - we know that tracking focus works best with ES. ejp Posted September 8, 2020 Share #85 Posted September 8, 2020 I have had this lens for about a week and am generally happy with it (for the price). This was taken on the SL2 at 560mm (with 1.4x) taken only about maybe 5 metres away. This is a 'little corella" or 'bare eyed corella' primarily found in Australia, and can live up to 50 years. SJH Posted September 9, 2020 Share #86 Posted September 9, 2020 I’ve just acquired this lens and I’m enjoying using it but with about 25% left in my SL2 battery I get the warning relating to 4K not being available and no burst shooting. Have you experienced this and I see Sigma have recently released a firmware update for the 35mm 1.2 which looks to resolve this on that particular lens: ’ It has optimized the communication of power consumption when used in combination with Leica CL and Leica SL cameras’
jaapv Posted September 9, 2020 Share #87 Posted September 9, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe, but the fact remains that this is a power-hungry lens. Better carry a few spare batteries.

Thanks for the reply and I think so to, I expect though that a firmware update will come out in the next few months as per the 35mm 1.2. Overall I really like the lens and great value for money, very light for a 100-400 so I use it all the time for 'walk around' shots.

dkCambridgeshire Posted October 7, 2020 Share #96 Posted October 7, 2020 (edited) Has anyone tried using an achromatic c/u lens with the Sigma 100-400mm? I've seen the impressive dragonfly & butterfly images in this thread but I need higher magnification for current Ivy Mining Bees project ... and TTBOMK there are as yet no L mount extension tubes available. Currently I use a Nikon 1 J5 with 70-300mm plus tubes for smaller insects but would like to use AF L mount lenses with SL 601 at long-ish subject distances ... L mount macro lenses have too short focal lengths for my purposes ... this is the type of image I'd need to take with the Sigma 100-400mm ... using my 67mm c/u lenses ... this Common Wasp was taken with Nikon 1 70-300mm plus extension tubes BW dunk Welcome, dear visitor! bags27 Posted October 14, 2020 Share #97 Posted October 14, 2020 Is there any new firmware for the lens? I just received notice that the Sigma USB dock is in stock in the US and I ordered it. On the Sigma webpage it doesn't seem as if there is any new firmware for the 100-400 L mount, but I had heard that there was some in the offing. I recently picked up a used Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM which gives one longer subject distance in macro & also works with the 1.4x Canon for macro. I use it on the SL2 with the Sigma MC-21 adapter. AF however's not great with this lens, in any event I use MF for macro. Maybe see if you can rent one of these & give it a try? I haven't heard anything about firmware for the 100-400 yet, or anything back from Sigma on some test images I sent them. I'm still using the lens with some success, for some subjects, in some conditions and wouldn't be without it. It doesn't give (me) quite the IQ I would like with anything shot at distance, and frankly I haven't seen anything from others unless in near range that compares to the images Rob shows us from his R lenses, but I remain hopeful that I and it can improve 😀. Our son has recently purchased the Panasonic S5 so he is very happy to have use of it too now.
