And that you like to adapt M and R lenses with 1.5x crop. CL line up is still relevant. If you expect more ? Get an SL and go full frame or buy Fujifilm X line to stick to APS-C +1 or hope for a compact SL but it would be an FF body anyway. People are not prepared to pay high-end prices for crop lenses imho, let alone if they are only marginally superior to Sigma's or other affordable competitors. Advertisement Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 Hi lct, Take a look here Hoping that CL2 = mini SL2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Le Chef Posted October 18, 2020 Share #182 Posted October 18, 2020 (edited) I think that your claim that APSC for Leica is dead, is about as fact free as you can get. I’ve heard politicians offer more substance. The L- Mount Alliance proves there’s more life in APSC format. Fuji shows there’s more to APSC than your “Woe is me!” statement. Show us the amount of €uros that have been removed from Leica’s APSC development budget. Give us hard facts that prove they have cancelled the CL2. if you have the facts let’s see them, otherwise you just sound like someone with a down on Leica. In which case why hang around here being miserable? Edited October 18, 2020 by Le Chef
nicci78 Posted October 18, 2020 Author Share #183 Posted October 18, 2020 (edited) I did not say that APS-C is dead for Leica. It is just at the minimum service stage. Just like S 30x45 line up is. Do you consider S line dead ? I don’t think so. But Leica only provide the minimum with S3. But do not expect any new lens. We may get an S4 in 4-5 years. APS-C is entering the same phase. No further lens development. But CL2 is certainly into the pipeline. But no new lens = no more development. It is a kind of zombie stage. Be happy with what you get (current lenses) and upgrade to newer body, if still interested to stay on board Edited October 18, 2020 by nicci78
jaapv Posted October 18, 2020 Share #184 Posted October 18, 2020 Well, let’s be thankful for the L alliance then...
nicci78 Posted October 20, 2020 Author Share #185 Posted October 20, 2020 Exactly I am very happy with my Sigma 56mm DC DN It is exactly what’s missing in TL line up : small, fast, excellent IQ, cheap 85mm equivalent.

By the way, adding video is free. Another reason to keep video : the video market is growing fast, when the still market is shrinking/sinking even faster. That’s why every camera manufacturers are turning to video. Even the still only one, such as Nikon or Fujifilm. Olympus missed the memo and let Panasonic take all m4/3 video customers for himself. Without strong video capabilities, Leica could be out of business in a few years. And they knew it, and make sure that SL2 and Q2 are as strong as possible in the video department. People want hybrid cameras instead of two separate devices. And camera manufacturers should be worried when most of the time, iPhones (not Android photo) can output better videos than what their big sensors cameras can. I use my iPhone for video. Leica for photography. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone and they do excellent video in recent generations of iPhone.
Jk1002 Posted October 23, 2020 Share #187 Posted October 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would not expect CL line to disappear. To me a ff sensor with a crop lens to keep overall package size in check makes a lot of sense. And FF bodys do seem to come down in size. Think a small body that can handle a 24-90 l mount with full resolution but also with a smallish APS-C 24-70 2.8 ....

nicci78 Posted October 23, 2020 Author Share #189 Posted October 23, 2020 CL2 absolutely needs top notch video abilities! Haven’t you noticed that it is video shooters who are still buying dedicated cameras ? That’s why everybody are courting them so hard. Even, never done video in my life companies like Nikon or Fujifilm are joining the club of photo & video centric ones like Canon, Sony and Panasonic. If you failed the video part, you can go the way of Olympus. Or slowly dying like Ricoh/Pentax.
nicci78 Posted October 23, 2020 Author Share #190 Posted October 23, 2020 Videos from Q2 or CL are better than iPhone’s one. It is just more difficult to use. Due to thinner depth of field. AF is a challenge with DFD only cameras. Better use MF. CL lack of IBIS is the biggest problem. Better to use a tripod or a monopod.
jaapv Posted October 23, 2020 Share #191 Posted October 23, 2020 An IPhone is hard to hold for video too, but appears to be well stabilized.

That might be true compared to an older generation iphone. IMO Apple’s video technology for their iphones is far more advanced than the Q2 or CL. There is a huge secondary economy that supports iphone with accessories that are heavy into videography.
