intermediatic Posted February 22, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I spent over $8,000 on a camera and there is no printed manual and unlike the SL2 no link to order one.

burningheart Posted February 22, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2020 Worst online form I have ever filled in. Multiple languages intermixed, several English spelling mistakes, opt in and opt out of newsletters, phone calls and mailings buried and easy to miss, no place to put in State or Province, the Street Address has two boxes which you must fill in both. A big box followed by a smaller box and no explanation as to what goes in what. There are times I carry a small printed manual when out shooting. Canon did the same thing a few years ago no user manual just downloadable copy. The excuse given you can download it electronically. I never carry electronic devices when out shooting, it is just camera and lens/lenses, no computers, iPads and I have never owned a cellphone. Form filled in and sent. Hopefully it is a real manual and not just a pdf print out. Nevertheless at least they provide an option to have one sent out. 🙂
Gobert Posted February 23, 2020 Share #5 Posted February 23, 2020 It’s so easy to use and based on elementary photographic principles that I cannot imagine that someone is going to study the manual while using the camera outdoor. It’s not a Canon with complicated menus.
digitalfx Posted February 23, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 23, 2020 printed manuals are so 1990. The haven't been included for years now. https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/Leica-M10-Monochrom/Downloads

Manuals have been included since 1990 it is only the last few years we have seen a discontinuance of manuals with many cameras. I agree Leica's are not as complicated as other cameras but some of us prefer having a printed manual available to reference and if we on occasion chose to take it with us when shooting that is our choice.
Gobert Posted February 23, 2020 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2020 To the contrary, I think I know them all.

Yes, that is a terrible, terrible form. It took me a while to figure out what *アルファベットでご記入ください / *알파벳으로만 기입하십시오. / *请仅用拉丁字母填写 meant or at least how to defeat it. I did get the manual for my SL2 printed and it was a welcome break from using the iPad. Leica should include these for that money.

When we buy an $8295 USD M camera for the love of Moses, un-clinch and give us a printed manual to go with it!! 🙄 Edited March 3, 2020 by Herr Barnack
SrMi Posted March 3, 2020 Share #11 Posted March 3, 2020 The online manual is missing features (e.g., about Shading Correction) and the index is wrong (off by two pages). I assume the current print manual contains the same mistakes.

Lemmy Caution Posted April 4, 2020 Share #13 Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) They may be 'So 1990s' but the printed manual is nice to have in my bag for the first few weeks using a new camera. Situations present temselves that will come up again and again - and I prefer to read a manual then, 'teach' the camera to anticipate. The printed manuals that came with my M6, M-E and QP fit in my bag. A downloaded PDF manual printed on my laser printer and stapled together - doesn't fit and will become a tattered pile of dead tree in a few days. And, as far as reaching it online? 20 years as an I.T. Director taught me that when you really need a manual- despite the fact that your own equipment/network is online the chances of loading that manual decrease in inverse proportion to the importance of the answer that you are seeking. When I shoot professionally (for a client) I pack EVERYTHING that: A client may request (within the scope and vision of the job) I MAY possibly need in order to meet my client's wishes. (including manuals for all cameras and any strobe/LED gear) This includes the times that I am the client shooting for my own needs. Where can I order the printed manual for my M10 Monochrom? The printed manual is free and I got one. But, I like the idea that Leica has decided to be environmentally friendly and eliminate paper and ink where they can, but still provide it for those that want it. No bother to me... just my opinion. LeicaS2 Posted April 10, 2020 Share #17 Posted April 10, 2020 I prefer all my manuals to be downloaded on my iPad. Works for me, but OK that Leica will send a printed one if requested. Yes the camera is simple, but there have been a few issues that reading a manual made easier than just playing around. Or of course one can skip reading any manual and ask questions on this forum which often lead to a reference to a page number in the manual.
