Foxtwo Posted April 22, 2020 Share #82 Posted April 22, 2020 (edited) Hugh is an acquired taste, and you may find that once you listen a bit, he is quite funny and even charmingly wry and self-deprecating. He is actually making fun of himself throughout his videos... Smile when you watch, notice his hair, you'll see what I mean. Yep, I also thought he was a bit pompous at first, but I grew to really enjoy his narrative style. He seems like a genuinely good person and fairly self deprecating and humble one at that. Tragg Posted May 18, 2020 Share #85 Posted May 18, 2020 A question for those who have owned an M10 Monochrom for several months: do you find the black and white images significantly better than those produced by an M10 and converted in Lightroom? Is there much/any visual difference in the larger sensor other than improved ISO? Any other comments?

Well, independent of the dedicated b&w sensor with more pixels no bayer filter which will give You more and sharper detail information and grey tones the advantage, at least for me, is that it is a dedicated b&w camera. Means I am not going out, taking pictures and decide at home if it will be b&w or color, I am going out to make b&w pictures. This is for me a different process of seeing and creating The b&w picture is the target. I know that a lot of photographers think different, but for me that is the one and only reason for having the Monochrom. Long story short: I am loving it!

Now I guess if I want to shoot black and white, I have to buy a camera...

Compared to my M10P, there’s a big difference in at least two respects: cropping capability, and high ISO performance. I find the sensor to be intrinsically sharper as well, meaning the same lens even scaled to the same resolution can look slightly sharper on the M10M, probably due to the absence of the Bayer CFA and no need for demosaicing in the M10M. For uncropped images, not enlarged to very large size, in good light I am skeptical you will notice much difference (other than the loss of color conversion flexibility with the M10M!).
UliWer Posted June 16, 2020 Share #90 Posted June 16, 2020 vor 35 Minuten schrieb onasj: (other than the loss of color conversion flexibility with the M10M!). I think that‘s the real difference. Converting from colours you can choose any section you like on the greyscale for every different colour: make yellow dark and achieve big differences between red and green etc. which you’ll never see on a monochrom film or sensor. It‘s like painting by numbers - when the numbers have no meaning. Of course this sort of manipulation may lead to good results. I have to admit that the leisure you have with these conversions puts me off. The monochrom sensor is a limitation and one has to learn to cope with it. John Miranda Posted June 23, 2020 Share #91 Posted June 23, 2020 The technical delta on M10P color to b&w conversion versus M10M is worthy of discussion, but I find the mindset created one has when setting out with an M10M, thinking in terms of light values versus color is an aspect I am thoroughly enjoying, which is expanding my appreciation for photography. 3
