Leaving aside the trite truth - that "all that matters is the photograph" etc..

The M10/SL bodies are much nicer to hold than the CL body. There is a lot to like about the Q2 - but it isn't nice to hold - for me anyway. As for Fuji and its pressed titanium top and bottom in the XPro-3- with a magnesium skirt - I shoot a lot with Fuji X and GFX - IQ is great but there is no comparison that can be made between Fuji and Leica as far as the tactile experience one gets using Leica gear.

If the SL2 feels like a CL or Q body - for me it would be a retrograde step.

I didnt even realize the Q2 was a different material than Q. For me the Q2 feels quality. When I used a Fuji X-Pro for some months I did like the camera but it felt "hollow" to me. So for my part...I am not concerned that Leica would not feel solid.

I even have had some thoughts that I would wish some more rubber and maybe magenesium because I am not sure how resistent aluminium is in regards of environment (salt water, sand, scratch etc.)

I think the people who want the camera to be made of aluminum or cold metal probably don't live in the cold north! Aluminum is one of the best conductors of heat outside of silver and copper...it makes holding a camera miserable when it is really cold out, even if you are wearing gloves. Plastic and rubber may be "cheap" but they have their place. As for the materials of the Leica, I think it is largely a matter for the engineers...I think the main driver is HOW they are made, not of what they are made. This is of course assuming they are using high quality materials.

We could have an enlightening discussion of gloves. The materials have come a long way in recent years.

It was a bit under freezing today, but with 40-50mph winds, so that stuff is on my mind. My wooden tripod is great to handle, but has sharp aluminum knobs...they are not fun in this weather...I know people hate plastic (myself often among them), but this is the perfect use case for it...softens the edges and provides insulation. Materials choice should be decided on the basis of what best enhances the user experience, not so much how "fancy" it is. Otherwise we start going down the road of the Hasselblad Lunar and Stella era...we all know how that went.

I don’t get the concern. Isn’t the body of the Q2 (like pics of the presumed SL2) covered in a nicely textured leather-type material on top of the metal?  One primarily grips the body to handle and shoot (at least I do), not the top and bottom plates.

In any event, I’d be surprised if the SL2 doesn’t have the same heft and quality feel as other Leica cameras, including the S007, which by the way, uses magnesium alloy.

While I'd love Leica to go with more titanium bodies, perhaps even with some groovy hardening treatment like the new Fuji's Duratect, it's obvious that this would raise the prices of the cameras significantly.

Interesting aside: Duratect has been in use with Citizen titanium watches for many years. I have a Citizen with Duratect treatment, and it's pretty hardy and doesn't scratch easily at all. I'm wary of any titanium object without a similar surface treatment because titanium, although lighter and stronger than steel, is relatively soft and scratch-prone. I baby my titanium Seiko Landmaster that lacks a hardening treatment.

The market has voted - it prefers devices to be lighter: one of the big selling points of the M10 over the M240, and (probably) of the SL2 over the SL.

Heavy is not always good and light is not always bad.

I get the desire for M cameras to have a substantial feel to them, but my M-P 240 is too heavy.  On the other hand, my M4-P has a nice weight to it but some would probably that it feels "cheap" because it is light, compared to an M-P 240.

I'm getting a Q2 in about three weeks.  I won't feel cheated if it doesn't feel like I've got a Pentax 67 or a Dutch oven hanging from my neck.  😎

Fujifilm released X-Pro 3 with top and bottom case in titanium. Which as strong as steel, but is 55% lighter than it. It is also scratchproof.

Hu ?

Quite on the contrary I thought the sensitivity to scratches was one of the problems of titanium and thats why they use especially elaborate schemes / exprensive processes to paint the X-Pro3 so its protected ?

Then don't. And stop complaining.

What’s the problem here ?
I am a Leica user and I want to continue to buy Leica’s in the future. Of course I have to complain, if they choose a direction that I dislike.

Otherwise what ? Just go away silently without a fight ? Ridiculous.
If we are not happy about something, we just have to speak up !

Perhaps asbestos gloves given the discussion is about magnesium? This is one aspect of camera design that reviewers never test properly, how quickly will the camera ignite and how easy is it to put out the fire. I believe a magnesium fire is especially ferocious and needs special measure to extinguish it, whereas I think weeing on an aluminium camera could be enough (but it is to be hoped the warm feeling down your leg is the heat from the camera fire and not a premature release of retardant).

You have a choice. Buy. Or don't buy. But spare us your whine, unless you want some cheese with it.

You are free to complain to Leica all you like.
