I'm going to get an M10 and 35 summicron. I think that since I can crop a full-frame image a lot, I wouldn't really need another lens, but I had the idea of getting a Zeiss 35mm too. The personalities of the lenses of those two companies differ, and it would be interesting to shoot with both.

Does anyone do this kind of thing?

Cropping to replace another lens is something i am not capable to do so i would choose another focal length personally but no 35/2 Leica is flare free by example so i prefer the ZM 35/2.8 or VM 35/2 from this viewpoint.

I have three 35mm lenses: a C Biogon 35/2.8 ZM, a Distagon 35/1.4 ZM, and an Utron Aspherical 35/1.7 LTM. When I want to shoot with a 35 I either take both Zeiss lenses or, for a smaller, lighter kit with a gentler rendering, the Ultron

How do you choose which of your 35mm lenes to put on the camera?

Funny you should ask. Since mine render differently that is one criteria. Another is silly though....which looks best on the body I've chosen to carry.

I have two M-mount thirty-fives, a Leica-M 3.5cm f/3.5 Summaron, and a Zeiss 1,4/35mm Distagon ZM. Different “signatures,” different maximum apertures, and different sizes; makes sense, to me. I tend to use the Zeiss on an M10, and the little Summaron on a Monochrom 246.

Plus, I have two 35mm Nikkors, a 35/1.4G and 35/2D, and two Canon 35mm EOS EF lenses, a 35/1.4L II and a 35/2 with Image Stabilization. That is one compact, and large lens, per system. I reckon that I like Thirty-Fives. 😉

If I would have OP money :), I would skip Cron and Zeiss and get one and only FLE. Switching lenses just because they might still show some character after cropping is not my thing on digital M where dust shake is still missing. Film, I do switch my two 35 from time to time. On digital I prefer lens without flare, nervios bokeh and odd colors.

Why not 3?

Because three is not enough to change everyday for a week 😉

Monday Summicron "I" , Tuesday Summaron 3.5/3.5cm, Wednesday Canon ltm 2/35, Thursday Summilux pre-asph,

Friday Summaron 2.8 , Saturday M-Hexanon , Sunday best day to do it with the Summilux asph. 😇

There are people on this forum who would feel ill equipped if they left the house with fewer than three 35 lenses

Anytime I'm out of my house… my house has indeed a certain number of 35s...  5 Summarons 3,5 at least (never I go out with 2 of them… :D… and seldom even with 1... :D)
