No concerns IF the adapter is a quality product. Avoid the cheapest junk on eBay. Ability to code is indeed a good idea on digital, but not compulsory - and some high-quality adapters do not have coding pits anyway.

Edit: some non-codable adapters (including vintage Leitz or Voigtlander ones) have a cutout in the area where the code should be. This will allow ambient light to hit the 6-bit sensor and prevent you from using LV or the EVF (if that's your thing) on the M10. No such problem with the M240.

Welcome to the Forum.

Some collapsible lenses should not be collapsed on certain Leica Digital Cameras.

Some non- collapsible lenses that take certain accessories will sometimes not fit, or operate correctly, with or without those accessories, in some situations.

Just ask specifically if you have a certain lens or 2 in mind. This is the Forum to ask questions like this on.

To add to what Ecar has written, if your LTM lens(es) has an infinity lock you'll need the LTM to M adaptor with the cutout or the back of the infinity lock might grate against the adaptor and prevent you from focussing your lens.

Yes, but on the original Leitz adapters the cutout is too wide for the code sensor.

I presume that you mean that the M10 doesn't think it has a lens mounted and generates an immovable error message about it?  I don't have ant Leitz adaptors with cutouts so I can't say for sure about them but the Voigtlander type 2 LTM to M adaptors seem to be okay.

Indeed. In this case, however, you may use a Rayqual adapter that's designed with a smaller cutout that covers the sensor AND allows the infinity lock to be operated. Only downside: these adapters are on the expensive side... Kenko also used to have a similar design, but they are increasingly difficult to find - except perhaps in Japan. Another option is to mount a small grindstone on a Dremel and make a cutout for the infinity lock on an adapter that provides full sensor coverage.

Also correct. Voigtlander Type 1 adapters are essentially identical to the Leitz ones, while Type 2 covers the sensor and allows for 6-bit coding.

With a Leitz or a Voigtlander Type 1 on the M10, you'll get a "no lens mounted" message and LV/EVF will switch off. On the M240, on the other hand, LV/EVF will work. Of course, on both cameras, the lens will not be recognised.

Just to note: if you have a VERY old ltm lens that has an “11-o’clock” position infinity lock, the adapters with cutouts for the later “7-o’clock” position infinity lock will still not allow it to focus full range, as the cutout is in the wrong position.

I recently got a nickel, non-serial 11 o’clock 3.5 Elmar 50 for my 1A (converted to II), and found this when I wanted to try it on digital. I may pick up another adapter and mill a special cutout for it.

It is a Summilux v3 then so no infinity lock thanksfully ;). I have no experience with this lens but its 6-bit code is 000101 if you are interested.

Tried Metabones, Kipon and a China made i don't recall the name 6 bit LTM to M adapters on my M240 and digital CL, to no avail for whatever reason. Got finally a Rayqual which works fine on both bodies. Only cons it is all black and the coding pits are not drilled on it so i had to use a template to paint them (in white) on a recessed part of the adapter. Otherwise it fits perfectly but none of my lenses have an infinity lock so i don't know how it works on such lenses.

In my experience, the Jinfinance adapters are the only inexpensive adapters that work for most (but not all) LTM lenses, although the recent ones are a bit too tight when new.

Fotodiox are slightly more expensive and also come with the 6-bit pits already milled.

I've had mixed results with Kipon.

Otherwise, Voigtlander Type 2 (now discontinued) or Rayqual should work flawlessly. The "Type III" Rayqual adapter on the Cameraquest website is the one I was referring to in an earlier post and will be perfectly fine on the M10P.
