Compact cameras, they wrote, which would seem more like D-lux, not M.  But even this wouldn’t be consistent with tariff policy, as I understand it for now.

Jeff

got it. I missed that detail. Thanks for clarifying.

For the first time in a long time, Tamarkin Camera in Chicago has an MM1with the new sensor and a 1-year warranty for US$3000. Pretty decent price

Ex+ condition, with handgrip and extra battery.  Tamarkin typically prices used gear on the high side relative to other dealers, but generally rates conservatively.

USD 3000 conservatively priced resale value including dealers commission for a sensor replaced MM1. Hm, if you have got a MM1 with this "sensor eating up itself" issue and invest the money for a sensor exchange, this will monkey hammer the MM1 down to about M8 resale value territory for you.  Gosh!

Does seem that way.
Only those who availed themselves of free sensor replacement benefit from the residual value. Anyone after the fact is stuck with a paperweight.

I called Tamakin because their rating system is conservative.  The MM1 includes the handgrip but not the original baseplate.  They have a M8 baseplate that matches the MM1 but it's an extra $200.  Sensor replaced in 2018 and just came back from Leica for some adjustments and repair.  I did not ask the nature of the repair.  About 15,000 actuations.

I think the "reasonable" range at the moment is $3k-$3.5k.  Had that same camera had the baseplate and 5k actuations it probably would have been priced at $3,400.00.

VAT is charged on used goods in the UK but, unlike new items. you can't reclaim the VAT.  That's because VAT is only payable on the profit that the dealer makes on the used item.

That is the case only if the seller is using the VAT margin scheme. There is no obligation for a VAT registered business to sell used goods under that scheme and many businesses (typically those selling to professionals or other businesses) will sell used goods subject to normal VAT rules and issue an appropriate invoice.

If you look at Leica UKs website there is no VAT on any used gear. It may be a country by country tax as you mention.

No, you are wrong.

You are confusing the margin scheme (where VAT is only levied on the dealer margin and not specified on the invoice) with general VAT rules. There is no distinction between used or new goods for the purposes of VAT in the UK other than in the specific case of goods sold (usually to consumers) under the margin scheme.

Yes, I know. you are weeks late on schooling me on VAT.
The way they advertise it is suspect.

Leica Miami has a MM1 with new sensor with 7k actuations listed at $4k. Interesting pricing..maybe the pricing is going up.

Maybe they are keeping a close eye on the Leica refurbished program and pricing accordingly.  I was lucky - my refurb had just 114 actuations and price was €3,500 with a choice of leather colour.  I also chose chrome - not many MM1s in chrome.

I've (likely rightly so) been advised on this forum to not do what I'm thinking about doing - selling my MM1 with an updated (low actuation) sensor.  While it was gone for ~6 months for replacement, I shot more and more B&W film, and I want to trade in/up for a Leica MP/MA.  I find myself still shooting film and not picking the MM1 up.

Not, in any way, to hijack this thread, but along the subject title - anyone have any thoughts what I should be looking to get for it on a valuation metric?  I'm in the U.S.  But, I don't think the market where I am is that large for the camera, and remote retailers want to pay a (what seems to me) hefty discount to purchase the camera body from me.

I'm lost in translation. Are you asking for how much we should pay for your MM1? :)

If so, open www.ebay.com and search for MM1 with filter "Sold" only.
