Nice out of field view à la M cameras. Give it a try. I really love it. Q2 in 35mm mode acts like a new camera for me. Which are a former Q user for the last 4 years You know, I think you’re right. I should reconsider the 35mm mode on the Q2.
Advertisement Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Hi LarryLeica, Take a look here Sigma fp – World's smallest & lightest mirrorless full frame camera. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
deep Posted July 11, 2019 Share #42 Posted July 11, 2019 The concept could work for some people but will do much better if they make a pancake lens for it. I suppose you could use the Leica 18mm one but that defeats the purpose of the bigger sensor. While the lack of practical viewfinder greatly diminishes the appeal for many, you do see people using the rear screen on everything these days, even DSLRs, so there must be a market? Good to know, but with LCD screen and AF, it's going to use more juice. I still remembered the earlier generations of A7 short battery life, worse if using for video capture. FlashGordonPhotography Posted July 11, 2019 Share #44 Posted July 11, 2019 This is almost certainly Sigmas first video orientated camera. Stills are more than likely just a side effect. So probably not hugely useful to most of us still shooters as a main camera. However, I think the video guys will love this. A tiny box that takes L mount lenses will be really good for those wanting to get L mount lenses into a cage. Those guys don't need huge grips or EVF's or TTL flash. hteasley Posted July 12, 2019 Share #45 Posted July 12, 2019 I don't know about anyone else, but I'm more intrigued by the 45mm f2.8 lens. Lugging my 50 lux-SL around is good for exercise, but a nice small L lens that covers full frame has been on my list for a while. I love the handling of the 23mm Summicron on the SL, but of course it crops. Definitely want to try this lens...

Peter Zapp Posted July 12, 2019 Share #48 Posted July 12, 2019 I consider the fp as a digital back with integrated lens mount and rear display rather than as a compact camera body. After all, there aren't any compact, full-frame L-mount lenses to pair with. It's difficult to manually focus a compact Leica M lens on a rear display. You need accessory grips, display loupes, tilting displays with shades or a tripod to actually use the 35/1.2, the 14-24/2.8 or their siblings. Even the 45/1.8 is large for its nominal specs. Hopefully, when the next generation fp evolves, customers only need to replace the body, but not their complementary inventory of accessories. That would a sensible approach to the obsolence of digital sensors, image processors, displays and viewfinders.

What a shame and imho a lost opportunity for Sigma. And no viewfinder is a no-go for me. ... I still hope Sigma will bring out something similar with a Foveon sensor that will allow the use of Leica lenses. nicci78 Posted July 12, 2019 Share #51 Posted July 12, 2019 Sigma FP is some kind of full frame GoPro with infinite number of accessories 😍 For a full fledge camera, just wait next year the Foveon Sigma SP
Twasi Posted July 12, 2019 Share #52 Posted July 12, 2019 Although I am already deliriously happy with the M 10 P and a full complement of lenses, shutter vibration is not negligible and a global electronic shutter, if that’s what they’re saying, would be a major advance. Giving up the rangefinder would be hard, as working exclusively with the “ground glass“ style screen on the back is only really practical for autofocus lenses. That makes it a whole new system separate from the M, not a complement to the M.

However, the VF issue is an issue for me. I can't work Zombe style off a rear screen.
saxo Posted July 12, 2019 Share #54 Posted July 12, 2019 In summary: pocketable, lightweight, weathersealed, silent (primarily cine-)camera for L-mount I was excited..... but: no EVF and doubtful M-lens usability If there will be an EVF (no hood for the LCD screen!) and M-lenses will work fine, I'll go for it, but not unless... Tailwagger Posted July 12, 2019 Share #56 Posted July 12, 2019 Looks like a potentially nice alternative for videographers desirous of L-Glass or anyone looking for a full frame iPhone-like shooting experience. Not in either of those categories, so... pass.

I think I’ll go for the Q2, but that doesn’t have an optical viewfinder. I see you have the M10. I enjoyed the M8 and M9, I’m sure the M10 is terrific, but I can’t justify buying all of those lenses again.
