I don’t have access to (and have not seen in the past) a Q menu but Jono Slack has a good description of the two programmable control dials (and FN button) on the CL, under the sub-heading “FN” in his review:

http://www.slack.co.uk/leica-cl.html

I have the two control dials on my CL programmed and set for focus magnification (when using an M lens) and exposure compensation.  When using an autofocus TL lens my two control dials control f-stop and exposure compensation.  All this makes the camera a delight to use, with WB or film style programmed through the rear FN button.

It appears Leica could introduce the Q2 with one control wheel and one rear FN button.  That makes sense as the lens is autofocus and f-stop is controlled on the lens, with a separate focus lock button. This would leave the control dial to manage exposure compensation or another programmed function. Likewise the programmable FN button.

I hope others will comment as I am not an expert on either camera

Excellent article. Thanks. It seems to me that the addition of the control wheel button gives a significant increase in customizable options for operation. Its potentially like another Fn button. Combined with the zoom button, that’s a lot of customizable control. It will more than meet my needs I expect.

Ridiculous money, Leica needs to be careful it doesn’t cross the boundary between expensive and desirable to silly and embarrassing, if I saw someone with a q2 over their shoulder at that price I’d feel sorry for them and move on

They've crossed that boundary long, long ago. I'm hoping the Q2 will come in at $5k, but wouldn't be surprised at $6k.

Q2's US MSRP will be around $5995.
Q-P MSRP is $4995.
Q MSRP is $3995 now.

That Leica Ginza post nails it.
Leica Q-P in japan is ¥ 658,800.
their rumored price is around ¥ 800,000  refers to a 20% markup above the Q-P.
escapes me why someone just did a currency conversation in the earlier post.

Is $5995 from a source of yours or are you speculating?

Because I have been told another price from a different source.

Assuming this thing is actually announced on March 6, how long will it take for people to actually get one?

Probably quick if you know your local dealer and have committed to buying. Many of the products lunched as of recently have been available on launch or very soon after (not lenses). At least that was my experience with the M10 and Q1.

From my Leica source, not very long at all.  Should be able to get our hands on it in March, if not almost immediately.

Also, based on my source, and if it they are correct, people are going to like the price.  😉

if it did come out to be 5995, i’d be on the fence to upgrade. mainly for 35mm crop (guessing 30mp?) , drip and dust proof, and 4k (not that i’ll use it extensively, but good to have in case i do want a quick 10 second clip). i like high pixel count for wider angles, so 47mp for 28 might be good, and mainly 35mm crop for daily use.

all this is assuming ois is still present. no ois means i prob won’t like 47mp and 4k at all.  also if the 47mp makes the q usage noticeably slower or overheat quick, then that’s also a nogo for me

if its  6k+, then i’d probably pass until there’s a mint used copy under 6k or never

Being a Leica-fan, I'm seriously in the market for the Q2.

But I'll certainly take the Zeiss ZX1 in consideration, and the price is an argument.

My guess is the Zeiss will be similarly priced to the Q2

...and its 47MP with crop mode is kinda a threat to M10. Did I mention better weather protection ? (No M lenses are)

35 mm crop mode will give you 30 MPx, 50 mm drops to 14.6 MPx. M lenses are made with very tight tolerances and have no electronics. I just wipe the rain drops off. 😀

Rubber band covered by a flexible hair tie around the mount does the trick. They come in different colors. 😂

What a coincidence. That’s exactly the solution I found 3 years ago.

but really I was stopping dust from entering when I switched to macro.  I .  don’t generally go shooting in the rain.

Nicci, I think you are obsessed with your choice of kit and can’t accept that other photographers are free to choose whatever they prefer.  We don’t need to be told what’s good for us.  I don’t change my camera every time something new is released.   I use what I have!

anyone on a list?

Yes, emailed my local Leica boutique in Stockholm yesterday asking if they took pre-orders and they replied that if a supposedly Q2 would come out I’m on their list.

Seems the unveil event is confirmed to be the 6th of March now.

Of course, use whatever you like, no problem. Such I use whatever I want.

I give my opinion, like it or not, still a free country, I hope. I always to explain why I made such choice. If helpful for you nice. If not, just look the other way or just debate about it with me. I am not stubborn at all, I change my mind when prove wrong. By the way I keep my gear for a long time, that's why I am very picky about my choice of gear.

And it is my right to not want to have to put a rubber band around my lens mount. Already tried this way. Not practical for me, maybe for some, but I do not think that it is a mainstream solution.
