I don't own the Leica 50/2 APO, but I had a Voigtlander 50mm f/2 APO-Lanthar 6-bit coded to the Leica. It worked with all my M10 bodies, but the M-D would not recognize it. I was certain the code was properly applied, but usually, I only add the "black" code, and it always worked with my M10 cameras. However, for some reason, a few of my coded Voigtlander lenses require both the black and "white" codes added to the mount for it to work with the M-D (possibly M240 as well), while other Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses work fine without the white code. I still don't know the reason, but after adding the white and black code, the Voigt 50/2 APO is recognized as a Leica. Perhaps the chrome reflection differs slightly between the Cosina models. Initially I asked if the M-D recognizes the Leica 50 APO because this camera does not have all lens codes.

I forget where i saw it, but one of the 3D 6-bit coding template sites that talked about a slight change in the shape of the 6-bit reader on the mount of the camera. I think it was that It went from somewhat of a straight line to more of a curved shape. I think this was in reference to coding Voigtlander lenses. setuporg Posted May 16, 2024 Share #143 Posted May 16, 2024 Just verified that the 50mm/2.0 APO is recognized by the Edition 60 and written in the EXIF. 1

I don’t have it and the firmware updates stopped before 2018… The Steelilux is the kit lens, the best 35/1.4 Summilux ever, with the wide rings and a native ventilated shade to die for. It is of course recognized. Edited May 17, 2024 by setuporg

I'm incredibly excited about it! I've been using my M10-R with a custom half case that covers the entire screen for some time now, and I absolutely love the shooting experience it offers. Initially, I considered the M10-D, but it seemed too similar to what I'm already doing with my current M10-R BP + custom half case, as it offers the same menu options (through FOTOS) and EVF. Wanting to replicate the feel of my film MP more closely, I opted to try out the M-D for its excellent battery life, non-existent menu and shooting experience. I also needed a backup body. Good to see you here Fred. It’s my favorite digital camera of all time. And the 50 noctilux I got from you is a worthy companion to my M-D.

I picked up my own M-D as an ex-shop-demo (after the M10-D made its appearance) and it was intended to be a back-up for my M9-P. After just one day's shooting I enjoyed using the M-D so much that I realised that the M9 was unlikely to get much play-time in the future so that body was traded-in against an M Monochrom. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever. Philip.

There are times I regret selling my M Edition 60; but then I remember why I sold it. I have never liked the 35 Summilux ASPH (FLE) - I’ve had two copies, and deep down, I didn’t like the M(240) either. What I loved was the purity and simplicity of the M60, and the stainless steel of the body and the lens, but then when I had another lens on the camera, somehow the magic wasn’t there. Silly, really as I loved the camera and its output. I agreed with Jono at the time that Leica should make a non-special edition and told Leica so. But the M-D was still an M(240) … When the M10 was released, I asked Leica if they would do an M10-D, with the ability to attache an EVF and WiFi if you needed to, leaving the camera as simple and pure when you didn’t. I was delighted when the M10-D was released.

The first lens I got after I got the Edition 60 kit was a titanium APO 50. I went to get a used silver one and then saw the titanium one available and it was a match made in heaven. Fred Miranda Posted May 31, 2024 Share #155 Posted May 31, 2024 Does anyone use the Toshiba FlashAir SD card with the Leica M-D? Is it worth it?

I purchased a couple 8gb w-03 flashair sd cards last year and it did not work on my m-d. I just tried again on my old fuji x20 and it did work but a bit slow in the transfer per file. I usually just use a SD to usbc adapter for my android phone when I want to transfer the entire card to my phone to process using mobile lightroom. Much faster !! I would try again on my m-d but sadly now my m-d is not working. Locks up when writing to the SD card or does not recognize the SD card. I tried formatting 4 different cards with no luck. I just contacted Leica and will be sending the m-d for service. I may have a couple new still in the box flashairs. if you want one, pm me your address and i will send it out to you for free.

I did send a new flashair sd card to Fred to try and test and he was not able to get the connection to work on the M-D as well. on a sad note he did tell me he was also having issues with the shutter on his M-D and will be sending it in to Leica. The issues were prior to receiving the flashair. I posted about this on Fred's site but with our M-D issues the thread has paused as well: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1858339/ Edited July 5, 2024 by cyberguru
a.noctilux Posted August 16, 2024 Share #159 Posted August 16, 2024 I had seen another "flaw" in M-D, not really ennoying but it's there. This of course can occur with any digital M. Recently, I wanted to have fun with M-D 262, so out I went with M-D and one lens. Quite happy with the film experience using it. At home, after viewing some "nice" pictures, I noticed some random black spots on each frame. I conclude that the sensor needed some cleaning. With another LCDed M, I would check easily for dusy sensor, but not the case with M-D. I even forgot about how is the process to clean the sensor, keeping the shutter open. The manual is quite useful to use such process: no lesser than 60% of battery charge left, the lever to "ST"(far left), then holding the function button while tripping the shutter.
a.noctilux Posted August 17, 2024 Share #160 Posted August 17, 2024 Dusty sensor cleaned ! As simple as blowing with the sensor upside-down. I have no idea if next time I would check before outing.
