105012 Posted October 18, 2018 Share #106 Posted October 18, 2018 Would a rare-earth based magneto generate enough of a charge to power a single picture? Make the rare-earth magnets the rotor with wired stator (brushless) and have the wind lever give the rotor a good rotational impulse? Charge then heads off to the battery... Probably just the thickness of the lcd bump.

Though why did they change the position of the switch-on button from the top to the back? This only makes sense if you want to move the „transport lever“ all its way. Just for a thumb‘s rest? Looks like that's what they decided to do. But turning it on with your thumb isn't any worse, I always leave my P on while shooting. My main gripe is the way too prominent location of the "setting" button. I'd have put it under the bottom plate, or maybe in the middle of the exposure comp dial. Using an advance lever as an on/off switch is a bit like using a toupee, in my opinion. Everyone can tell it’s not real and more than a bit embarrassing.
Guest Nowhereman Posted October 18, 2018 Share #113 Posted October 18, 2018 If the on/off switch is really the function of the advance lever — Tell me it ain't so! — then it would be an embarrassment for Leica. _______________Alone in Bangkok essay on BURN MagazineNowhereman Instagram

sebben Posted October 18, 2018 Share #115 Posted October 18, 2018 (edited) Why on earth would they put a rewind lever on it? This is supposed to be the most minimal model with the bare essentials! Just make a thinner, lighter MD with the new sensor! Edited October 18, 2018 by sebben
elmars Posted October 18, 2018 Share #116 Posted October 18, 2018 The rewind lever as a thumbs up. I loved this with my M6. And the hot shoe is free for the EVF.

M9reno Posted October 18, 2018 Share #119 Posted October 18, 2018 Good, the winding lever is not an on/off switch. Then a thumb-rest? In that case a bit like a toupee, taken off to be used as a drinks coaster. Not exactly a classy design move. NB The photos show there is still a thumb rest next to the selection wheel on the back of the camera. So still some reason for hope.
