exactly......I'm a lot younger than you remember :)

Neil

Exactly, I’ve been photographing since 1974, with a lot more time to supposedly accumulate gear. I’m now up to 2 cameras and 4 lenses. And one bike. You should have 10x that by my age. Or sooner. :)

Yes have all the focal lengths except the T/S lens .  One of the biggest advantages of the S product line are  the lenses .  Provide a very consistent aesthetic across all the focal lengths between 24-180 ... Three filter sizes 72/82/95  .  CS shutters in most focal lengths .

Hi Roger,

it has been a while since i visited your website and found many gems.  Seems like you did a big re-edit.  I fondly remember our time in Rome with David Turnley.

Like you I also have most of the S except for the 30 and the T/S so am keeping my fingers crossed for what comes next. Hope our paths cross again!

I just picked up a brand new APO-Macro-Summarit-S 120mm f/2.5 for roughly 5,500 USD (26 percent off the official Leica price in EUR) with full Leica warranty. I don’t have an S and don’t think I will buy one. I plan to use it on the SL, perhaps sell it later on. I hear it’s a stunner, also for black and white.

Just curious, did it come with the new AF motor installed, and if so, how was that noted?

One has to find multi-brand dealers who carry some S lenses inventory, are sick of it, and don’t know what’s coming. They need to release some working capital to stock up on all those Nikon Zs, and Canon FF mirrorless bodies. With a reasonable offer one should be able to get the S lenses new or in mint condition.

My S2/S006 and lenses have languished the past two years.  New S equipment aside the SL has been in steady use with L zooms, M lenses and occasional S lenses attached.

I was tempted to accumulate S lenses with the low used market prices and would have proceeded down that path if Leica had given any indication the system had a

pulse.   Rumors have been circulating 1 1/2 years about a new 70mp S body, but rumors have been wrong before.  In the meantime my S2 sensor is now slightly corroded and

a lens motor has failed without anything more than an occasional few shots to check battery/camera status.    My Canon/Nikon equipment get occasional use but Leica lenses

make it difficult to return to any other system despite their greater reliability (Canikon) and Leica's comparatively unreliability.  The SL is a camera I didn't want to like but do, the

evf has many advantages over an ovf, so the temptation is to move to Hasselblad or Fuji, except the S lenses are too good and the ergonomics of the S bodies continue to be

exceptional despite mirrorless.   So, the S feels like it's in no man's land for me, yet it is a system I can't abandon.   With a new body the S system has a pulse again, I hope Leica will bring

new innovation to the S that will make it competitive in the now crowded medium format arena and show that Leica has an interest in ongoing efforts of making the system viable

well into the future.  If not it would be a shame to have the best glass in medium format hit a dead end.

I’m in the same boat. I really want to pick up an 007, but I’m waiting for two things. One, the S3 so that the prices will drop like rocks (already happening- mint on eBay for $7600). Two, I really am intrigued by what Fuji has been doing. Cameras that are fun to use, that aren’t a fortune, and seem to be a priority for the company. I have S lenses just sitting around awaiting their fate. I can’t seem to sell them even when given an opportunity because I just love them so much. I think it’s seeiously outrageous to sell the s system for so much. As if it’s a 100mp Hasselblad that is a pro workhorse or a phase system. People with deep pockets and sometimes no talent can buy them all day and be like who cares about the price. From purely a pushing of the joy of Photography perspective, Leica is not being cool when there are more capable cameras that people can truly enjoy for much less. But I’m not selling my glass just yet.

That's a very tempting price point.   The S2 price has rebounded slightly in the past year and it's quite a capable camera if the limitations are workable.  Wouldn't surprise me to see prices rebound for the 007 especially if the long circulating rumor  of an 007 upgrade to the new sensor (highly questionable) are true.

When is photomontage?

Neil

Photokina?

For the 2018 event, the schedule is changing: it will take place from Wednesday, 26 September to Saturday, 29 September, and thus enable a more compact, more intensive trade fair experience.

photokina 2019 takes place from Wednesday, 8 May to Saturday, 11 May 2019.

The operative words are "drop like rocks" . . .  What does that mean?  If you think $8-10K range I might agree. The market should certainly have more supply, but if new S3 pricing is high, S007 owners may not be so quick to part with their cameras.  We shall see.
