I was supposed to be at Mayfair today for the launch, but my feeling was I wanted the Q and bought that last week.. I would never use it with an AF 28 mm equivalent. True ..... but I am thinking cropping the 28mm FF sensor to, say, 35mm focal length vs CL with the new 24mm Elmar ??? At the longer focal lengths, say using a 35 or 50 on the CL with the sensor crop factor how much depth of field am I loosing vs the Q? The new 18mm (effective 27mm) lens looks like an attractive proposition. Perhaps I misunderstood your statement. I use the marvelous Summilux DoF to my advantage in compositions and the FF image quality is superb. Smaller size is important as is a great EVF -- rather than rangefinder (tired old eyes). This eliminates the M family. A FF CL or "QL" would be nirvana... I'll have to try a CL next to my Q and do side-by-side analysis in Lightroom Classic. Who knows, I may have to go back to APS-c sensors unless I decide to haul a huge SL system. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

For me the Q offers the benefits of a very croppable FF sensor and the shallow DoF obtainable with a f/1.7 lens on a FF sensor, which is not going to be be avilable on an APS-C sensor and f/2.8 18mm lens. The only smallish lenses that gives CL the size advantage over Q are the new 18 and 23. The Q is not getting much use anymore and that probably will not improve after getting the CL. And it seems that I will be able to keep my 3 spare Q batteries! sblitz Posted November 22, 2017 Author Share #20 Posted November 22, 2017 I understand the point about DOF, but you are talking about an 18mm lens on the CL.....Look at it this way, and perhaps I am totally wrong, but I take shot with my Q and crop it to a 50mm view, aren't the megapixels better if I shot the CL with a 35mm summicron? It is really only from 28mm or maybe 35mm and lower, that the Q is better because then you are using the full sensor? I think the game changer here is that I can put an M or R lens on the CL and shoot a longer focal length rather than crop the Q. Don't get me wrong, the cropped Q is GREAT!!!!!! I am presupposing that the CL sensor, etc is equally great. IF not, then the argument is moot.... anyway just a thought. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
