If you are still reading this thread you are either price-insensitive or actively hostile to Leica...

At least this puts a good 24 MPx APS-C sensor in an eye-level camera behind TL and SL lenses.  Will wait to see how the EVF quality (able to see into shadows, for example) and AF robustness holds up in early reviews.

Not just TL and SL lenses. What about R and M ones?

Announcement imminent but when do deliveries commence? Is there a stockpile? We will likely will not know until Tuesday.

My Norwegian dealer says the are able to deliver on launch date, but I don't know how many. I would assume that this means most dealers will be able to deliver some on launch date.

No, just amused at the speculation. With what's being asked for by some learned members, I suspect there is a high percentage of this forum who believe in Father Christmas ..... oh, no I've let the cat out of the bag.

On a serious note, I await the announcement with interest as from what I've read it looks as though the (whatever it's called) could be an improvement on the T, TL and even TL2.

Cheers, Tom

If the idea of an X1 with built in EVF and removable lenses floats your boat then you'll be very happy next week.

If you were hoping for something more groundbreaking then it seems disappointment awaits.

Next!

James, Why be so negative and judgmental yet again … especially prior to the official announcement.

Your negative comments about the T/TL system are legendary e.g. (style over substance)according to you.

And it's this week ... not next week … please get your facts right :)

How many groundbreakers has Leica had?

- Barnack (the first)

- M3 (the M mount)

- M8 (the digital M)

- T (the L mount)

Everything else is just engineering development.

It's hard on Leica to have to produce a groundbreaker every time.

Add in the system 35mm camera from 1931, built in rangefinder from 1932, motor drive (clockwork with MOOLY) and some others. The problem that the CL faces is if it does not wake you up in the morning and serve up a cup of tea, a lot of people will not be happy. I expect discussions on the forum later this week to resemble those between Statler and Waldorf on the Muppet Show.

Combined rangefinder-viewfinder (M3), Autofocus (although lost through misjudgement), blank-pressed asperical lenses, lens computer  design(COMO)  I'm sure I missed a few.

I'm not sure I understand the distinction between engineering development and ground breakers, but from a a market perspective (leaving lenses aside), getting a full frame sensor into the M9, the Monochrom, the T, the SL, the M10 (okay, refinement, but still), the M-D and the M-A (if producing a meter-less film camera in 2015 can be groundbreaking).

The point is, the "groundbreaking" cameras are not so much scientific or engineering marvels, but producing cameras and lenses that no one else has thought of or had the courage to produce.  The CL will be a fine addition to the L mount system, but it's ... underwhelming.  There's not much about it that says "that's cool" or "I want one of those" ...

Not for me, anyway.  I'm sure for others it will be just perfect, and that's good too.

I didn't realise that I was a legend! Thanks!

The M5 and CL … first TTL metering rangefinder cameras and contrary to some opinions still in demand today … even though the M5 was greeted with negativity when first announced.
