michaelwj Posted May 13, 2017 Share #61 Posted May 13, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) One of my pet peeves is someone critiquing a photograph by saying that 'you should have used a lower viewpoint' or some other such uninformed statement. When the viewpoint isn't available, you are stuck with the viewpoints which are, or you change focal length (or buy a drone I suppose, if relevant). And you are stuck with the results for better or worse. When I was judging a local club photo competition, I mentioned that the subject might look better if shot closer with a wider angle (or something along those lines). The gentleman whose photo it was promptly stood up and agreed but then gave a whole bunch of reasons that it was possible to closer and what were they do then? My slightly tongue in cheek response was that sometimes a photo is not that good, and you just have to submit it for a competition and move on. Exodies Posted May 13, 2017 Share #62 Posted May 13, 2017 "You should have" is never the right way to present a different opinion. "If you did <this> then you would achieve <that> " is less violent. You should pay attention to what I tell you.
Tailwagger Posted May 13, 2017 Share #63 Posted May 13, 2017 @ Tailwagger. The sky in your photo No. 2 reminds me paintings by Jacob v. Ruisdael... Thank you for the very kind sentiment! Spring here on the coast of New England often has a lot of inspiration skies.
