Dang - i just did this same shot with my Voigtlander 40mm Nokton and the 50mm Summicron V1 (1955) and the summicron was better! Totally surprised. Here is the summicron shot:

Photo looks great! I know you are a fan of the Voigt 40 (as am I) - I would be interested to hear in what ways you think the old 'cron is better.

Side by side in PS - the Summicron shot just looks sharper and “cleaner”if that makes sense. Probably a microcontrast issue? Not really sure. Color images with this lens look a little like 70’s film shots, but it really shines in black and white!

Thanks. Sometimes really subtle and hard-to-define differences can make a huge difference!

To compete with current versions, my 1956 Summicron 50/2 v1 needs a hood and contrast must be pushed in PP. Great lens otherwise in WB and the lens is no slouch in color either. Here with 12575 hood on M11 at f/2:

Thanks for the hood # - I don’t have one yet! I think the lower contrast is what gives these lenses that vintage look, an easy fix these days. Otherwise the sharpness and detail are quite good. Maybe someday I’ll get a V5 - would love to see what a new version can do!

Just for info, i would not use the 12575 hood in RF mode, it protects well against flare but blocks the OVF window too much and cannot be reversed for transportation. Aside from the regular hood i have no experience with (SOOFM), both metal (12585) and plastic (12538) vented hoods are a better fit in RF mode IMHO. Both can be reversed for transportation and the glass is protected by the 14033 plastic hood cap if needed. Ouch! too many words here, sorry. Another Summicron 50/2 v1 snap on M11 at f/2:
