Ha ha, yes it was!  If only I caught the bat connecting with the ball...

That’s the difference between an M3 and an SL2-S 😂

I'm not sure if that would have made an equally striking picture. It would probably seem quite static. A capture just before or just after the bat hits the ball will probably make a more dynamic image. Maybe just a little bit closer than here.

Actually, I'm guessing the SL2-S, if it's like most mirrorless cameras, would likely not reliably capture that moment, because of shutter lag.

In fact, if I'm doing something crazy like photographing action at f/1.4, I find rangefinders do better than virtually any other camera.

Here's an example with the M9, shot @ f/1.4 (the only thing in focus is his eyes):

The shutter on the M3, being mechanical is even faster (I'm a little out of practice now though, with Covid having interrupted the season...)

I actually like the M3 for sports, because you have to get closer to the action:

Thanks, I like the motion as well.  I too wish the ball was closer to him, but then again, it would have ended up overlapping some of the busier background elements and not standing out as much as it does in its current location (with a dark background).
