meerec Posted January 6, 2018 Share #501 Posted January 6, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not feeling as compelled to get SL zoom lenses at this moment. The 90-280 and 16-35 should have been a must have for me. So I was quite astonished at myself for not getting the 90-280 yet and even complemented the 24-90 with the TL and M lenses instead. It's something I would not normally do so I concluded that retirement has become a fairly attractive proposition. While I'm enjoying the SL enormously, I'm also considering sliding into retirement gracefully I went back to using my 5DIV for a week and it felt pretty good to have snappy AF and easy flash controls. I think however the deciding factor is the Leica 24-90 and the SL's image quality. Just wish I was 20 years younger. The SL is built for the next generation of pros. But if I have the economic reason, it's an easy decision. Problem is the 24-90 gets me creative with doing away with 1.7 kg of 90-280. :-) I like my 1.7kg of the 90-
Advertisement Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Hi meerec, Take a look here New Leica SL Lenses & Roadmap!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lx1713 Posted January 6, 2018 Share #502 Posted January 6, 2018 :-) I like my 1.7kg of the 90-280 I actually enjoyed the holy trinity of Canon lenses very much which was why at Leica's initial annoucement I was thrilled. I was happy for Leica users. But I couldn't resist the opportunity to try the SL. Now I'm likely to give up my Canons. When I have command of the photography venue, the 90-280 will deliver the images. These days, chances of a mobile user popping in front of me is a likely annoyance which gave me the chance to see if I can give it up. 1.7 kg isn't that bad : )
Jeff S Posted January 11, 2018 Share #503 Posted January 11, 2018 Looks like a Summicron APO 50 might be added to the SL lens roadmap.... https://leicarumors.com/2018/01/11/leica-rumored-to-announce-a-new-apo-summicron-sl-50mm-f-2-lens.aspx/ Jeff
Andrew Gough Posted January 11, 2018 Share #504 Posted January 11, 2018 I think that we are entering the year of the SL... Quite a few lenses in the pipe.
JeffWright Posted January 12, 2018 Share #505 Posted January 12, 2018 I think that we are entering the year of the SL... Quite a few lenses in the pipe. Hopefully not wishful thinking, otherwise I'll move on from the SL. Love it, but lacjk of native lens choices are frustrating. They are already behind on the primes, and allegedly were to see the 16-35 soon as well. Instead the world got the Thambar and a red Apo 50....At least the new 75/1.25 M lens is interesting.

steveBK Posted January 12, 2018 Share #508 Posted January 12, 2018 Are there other not-yet-announced rumored lenses on the roadmap? Isn’t the roadmap the announced lenses? Yes However they haven't been able to meet their own roadmap within a year of original dates and have 4! previously (1+ years ago) lenses yet to ship (or with even a precise ship date). So anything that is just in the rumors category.. will then be added to this roadmap.. by the time it is announced/roadmapped/delayed/released.. lets call it mid 2020, no? Ingo Posted January 12, 2018 Share #510 Posted January 12, 2018 The crystal ball says that the 75 and 90 will be available for sale within the next 2-3 weeks. I assume that the 50/2 will be officially announced when the 75 is available.
Guest VVJ Posted January 12, 2018 Share #511 Posted January 12, 2018 But why another 50? Why not a 28mm or a 21mm?
dkCambridgeshire Posted January 12, 2018 Share #512 Posted January 12, 2018 But why another 50? Why not a 28mm or a 21mm? Why not a 560mm I can guess why … but whatever is 'promised' next was likely planned many, many, months ago … and there's nothing we can do to bring about desired SL lenses. I've now changed to a different system for AF bird photography because Leica has no plans for SL long lenses in excess of 280mm … I cannot sit twiddling my thumbs hoping they might. No hint of even an SL 2x extender. dun
Timkr Posted January 12, 2018 Share #513 Posted January 12, 2018 I really hope they come out with extenders. It would make me think hard about selling some of my canon gear.
sillbeers15 Posted January 13, 2018 Share #514 Posted January 13, 2018 I’m trying to understand the rationale from a camera/ lens maker. Why would there be delays and slow response to introduce new SL lenses as Leica introduced the SL range to capture lost ‘R’ customers & new customers. We see the prototype SL 75, 90, 35 & 16-35mm already made available many months ago, so it should not likely be design and performance issues that is causing delays. My guess is either Leica does not have production capacity to cope (T lenses are not produced in-house) or and they are accessing maket acceptance & risk. Jeff S Posted January 13, 2018 Share #515 Posted January 13, 2018 I bet a lot of S system owners would have gladly accepted more delays to avoid the AF motor debacle. I wouldn’t be surprised if the development of the rumored S008 is taking up limited resources. Any changes to the S will likely set the stage for the next SL And, if the S goes mirrorless, then add to all that the need for new native S lenses, although it seems more likely that OVF will remain. Who knows? My issue is more about communications and transparency than it is about delays. Jeff

sillbeers15 Posted January 13, 2018 Share #518 Posted January 13, 2018 where are the T lenses made ? No certain. Leica did not disclose. Just mentioned other location.
dkCambridgeshire Posted January 13, 2018 Share #519 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) where are the T lenses made ? They are made in Japan. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/225825-t-lens-manufacturer/page-1 Leica has outsourced manufacture of some of their lenses and lens components for many years e.g., in the past, Kyocera, Sigma, Agfa, Novoflex, Minolta, Zeiss, Schneider, Angénieux … third party manufacture of Leica lenses is nothing new. Some die-hard Leicaphiles do not like the idea of their beloved Leica lenses being manufactured outside of Wetzlar or Solms dunk Edited January 13, 2018 by dkCambridgeshire
wlaidlaw Posted January 13, 2018 Share #520 Posted January 13, 2018 I am amazed the far eastern manufacturer or plural of the TL lenses has not leaked out. Leica's security must be way ahead of The White House Wilson
