TimMar Posted June 14, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes its my first post here I stumbled upon a used Monochrom 18mp at my local shop for a amazing deal. Just wondering if theres anything i should look for while purchasing. I attached a photo of a "sensor" shot. Does it look like there is any corrosion going on? Also the image unique ID is 000000000000000000000000000007FE. Is there anyway i can get the shutter count from this? Thanks for any advice! here is a link to a high res https://65.media.tumblr.com/33415210d89e59c8c28286a87b2cc514/tumblr_o8scunjh2Z1rt3o0ro1_1280.jpg
Advertisement Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Hi TimMar, Take a look here Purchasing a Leica Monochrom and need some help. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scaryink Posted June 15, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2016 First off, this is my favorite camera of all time. I would check to see if the sensor has been replaced. If not Leica is replacing them free of charge (they had my camera for more than 6 months however.) I doesn't look like you have the sensor issue on this kit. My understanding is the sensor shows the problem in the upper left corner of the image.
johnwolf Posted June 15, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 15, 2016 Tim, there are a couple ways to identify shutter count explained in this thread. The sensor sure has a lot of spots, but they look like the type I get all the time and that clean off easily. Maybe others who have actually had the problem can say more. Good luck with the purchase. If you go for it I'm sure you'll love it. I had never heared of the upper left corner factor. Can anyone confirm that's a fact? Thanks. John
dkmoore Posted June 15, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2016 I actually thought the sensor didn't look that bad and those spots should blow off with a rocket blower. This looks like a corrosion free sensor to me. I own and love the Monochrom so if you decide to purchase I will be excited for you! When you test it out, all functions (shutter release, shutter speed dial, buttons, etc) should feel smooth and very positive. You should take some test shots and download to a computer in the store to at least gauge if the focus is right.

250swb Posted June 15, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2016 I agree with the others, just looks like a bit of dust on the sensor. If you haven't got one already a sensor cleaning kit will be needed anyway so make the camera your own by giving it a good clean. For your future reference you convert the Unique Image ID with an online hexadecimal to decimal converter such as this http://www.binaryhexconverter.com/hex-to-decimal-converter and you only need to put in the last four characters and you get the figure Luke came up with. With a shutter count of only 2046 the camera has hardly been used as there could have been three or four hundred actuations just going through Leica quality control and these aren't zeroed before it leaves the factory. jcraf Posted June 15, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 15, 2016 Sounds a really good deal, and with a lens and magnifier too! You will love this camera, I'm sure. My own Monochrom journey has been MM Mk1 > MM 246 > MM Mk1 (with new corrosion-resistant sensor). I personally much prefer the files from the Mk1 MM (as yours) with its CCD sensor, and never truly warmed to 246 model. All highly subjective, of course. Happy shooting! IkarusJohn Posted June 15, 2016 Share #11 Posted June 15, 2016 I also have the Mk1 Monochrom, though mine is silver chrome. You will love this camera, I'm sure. The files may initially appear a bit flat, but they respond well in post processing (I find Silver Efex Pro really good) and the resolution is fantastic! Good buy! IWC Doppel Posted June 17, 2016 Share #19 Posted June 17, 2016 Have fun getting to know the files with Lightroom and I think you will be amazed at the resolution. I'd start with a configuration of DNG and JPEG to get familiar with how the DNG's come out as they are quite different to a B&W version of the M9 files
Gavbo Posted June 17, 2016 Share #20 Posted June 17, 2016 I can't understand why would a dealer sell it for so cheap?
