I can have 3 lenses only or 3 more lenses? If i cannot use more than 3 i will leave some little marvels in their silver boxes and keep my all time favorites Biogon 35/2.8, Elmar 50/2.8 v2 and Macro-Elmar 90/4. Who said that M lenses are made for the rich? :D

Given my major photography effort is on our travels, I have a perhaps different set of criteria.  Small and light.

For my needs the MATE (yeah, I know, it's not small or light.  so sue me. :) the convenience rules in this case.) and 90mm Macro seem to suit very well.

If I couldn't have the Tri-Elmar, I think 28, 50, and 90.  Don't much care which ones as long as they are relatively small.

For M240:

--------------

21/1.4 Asph

50/2 APO Asph

90/4 Makro (older version with reversible hood)

For M246:

------------

35/2 v1 (8-element)

50/2 v2 Rigid

90/40 Makro (older version with reversible hood)

all 3 lenses have 39 mm filter size, making filter use easier

For a 2 lens combination:

M240: 35/1.4 FLE + 75/2 APO

M246: 35/2 v1 + 90/4 Makro

Hi all !

I think I will stick for long with the kit I recently built for a M-P (240):

SEM 21 ASPH (35% of my M photos)

LUX 50 ASPH (50%)

ELMARIT 90 (15%)

I think I will use more the 90 when better mastering the rangefinder focusing, and will end-up in a balanced use of all 3. I feel very happy with them, and so does my back since I carry a M  :D

I'm interested why changing cameras leads to a focal length change? I can understand swapping the 35v1 for a 35v5 between colour and b&w (as you list for the 50s), but changing a 21 for a 35? They're very different focal lengths. Is it just because you really like the 35v1 on the M246 and don't like the modern 35s on the M240? Or you haven't found a 21 you like on the M246?

I'm perplexed and interest in your thoughts?

Cheers,

Michael

35/2 UC-Hex,

50/1.4 E46,

75/1.4

my three most used lenses at the moment

In half a year this could read entirely different.

I tend to change my favorite lenses and even cameras a lot and could never commit to one lens for a year or three lenses for the next 5 years silliness.

Another three lens kit I really love is this:

35/2 v1,

50/1.5 CZJ Sonnar wartime LTM,

85/1.5 Nikkor LTM

or this:

21/1.4,

35/1.2 v1,

50/1 v4

or this:

21-35 Hex Dual,

50/2.5 CV LTM

75/2.5 CV LTM

or this:

3.5cm Elmar,

5cm Elmar,

7.3cm Hektor

From what I have, 28/35/50 Summicrons, but if I could swap anything out I would replace the 50 Summicron with a Summilux. Addresses my needs. I enjoy shooting wider than 28, and longer than 50, but I don't do either with enough frequency to merit them as "only three" lenses.

If i could pick any three, money no object, to use for the next 5 years it would be simple

28 summilux, 50 noctilux, 90 summicron

Reality would be the two i already have, 50 summarit and 90 M Rokkor, and adding a 28 later on (maybe 28 ultron or elmarit)

...all time favorites Biogon 35/2.8, Elmar 50/2.8 v2 and Macro-Elmar 90/4.

A quick comment on the pros/cons of the Biogon 35, based on your extended experiences with M-mount lenses, would be much appreciated!

And yes, the Macro-Elmar 90/4.0 is among my favs as well...
