I went to Dymchurch. It was bleak. The vignette isn’t post it’s what the 21 does on the SL sensor. It’s fantastic lens if a little soft.

A quick post of these monsters coming from Dungeness. I’m equal parts fascinated and terrified of them. They crackle and spit and hum. If they were just towers they’d be fine, I’d probably climb them. But that power in them scares me. I felt nauseous being near them. I got close enough to touch the leg, with the wind blowing the cables around above me. Felt like I was being toyed with by a giant crane fly, which I have a phobia of.

Well thank goodness you wouldn't be tempted to climb them.  The pylons in your picture are carrying 330,000 Volts minimum and getting within 12 feet of the cables puts you in severe danger of arcing, which would kill you instantly.  Touching the legs is not dangerous because they are earthed and therefore safe.  As long as the insulators (the long double lines at the ends of the arms) are doing their job.

My apologies for the severity of the above but not treating them with sufficient respect will have catastrophic consequences.  I have witnessed this and wouldn't wish it on others.

Pete.

Oh yeah I know. Hence the fear/respect. Something about the construction plus the power makes a horrific monster in my head. Near to the power station is a giant metal porcupine that is similarly awful. I enjoy big engineering but when coupled to electricity I no longer find it fun.

12 feet. I had about, hmm, 20 feet spare. Not that much considering how it crosses a public path. I have close up images just haven’t bothered to do anything to them yet.
